Hi. I live in a 300 year old small cottage. I love traditional and the shabby look.
I would love to see pictures of small living rooms that have a mixture of old traditional and painted furniture. I need the courage to go for it. I have done the small chest of drawers and would love to do some of the other pieces but just can't decide on colour or how far to take it. Any help would be appreciated.

Comments (6)My lounge has the same overall look with similar colours to the rest of the house. Different accents are more prominent in different rooms. The same grey is used on the walls in the whole house except the kitchen and kids bedrooms. Comments (23)Thanks guys, these are my latest attempts! Tani the 2 tall non-oven units are a tandem larder and a FF. so yes rinq they will need to open right to left so have changed it. The 2 lower cupboards in the tall oven units also need to open right to left as we will be keeping big kitchen stuff like the magimix in here and I don’t fancy carting it out of the cupboard and then having to manoeuvre my way around a door to get it onto the work surface in the corner! Now stuck what to do with the door for the corner base unit, just realised the door will have to open left to right so the handle/knob for that door will be right next to the handle/knob of the cupboard under the oven. I did quite like putting all knobs on the front side of the island rinq but I thought it looked a bit *too* knobby so I think vertical handles for the doors? Comments (9)hmmm yes, you have a lot of surface styles which make it hard to see a total scheme. I spy some vertical wood, which could be refinished. You could consider continuing with a similar cladding style over the brick areas, leaving the pebbledash as the other surface. This would bring some continuity to your exterior. Similarly, if the budget allows, you could go for an industrial feel and combine wood with a dark metal cladding, charcoal or black, over the pebbledash and brick. I have just painted the whole room and the chimney breast in a much lighter cream. this is getting to look more like what I want, rather than my grandma's
