Wall colour dilemma

Hi all, we've painted our kitchen feature wall in F&B inchyra blue which we really like. However I'm now struggling to find a colour for remaining walls! It's a blank canvas with no favourite artwork or furniture I could go by. I've attached pictures of the kitchen when owned by previous owners. Can anyone please recommend a colour that would compliment inchyra blue? I'd like the kitchen to be a bit of fun/eclectic/industrial..really like the tropical scheme at the moment too and thinking to buy curtains in the attached fabric but worried it wouldn't go with inchyra blue at all! The room is south facing. I'm thinking to get one of the concrete top dining tables..any advice would be appreciated! Many thanks.

Here you go..excuse the mess. As you can see it's quite dark..It feels warm though. The middle wall on the last picture and few other bits will still be painted in either greige or Dulux Chalky Downs 2 which we used in the hallway. Now we just need to accessorise..I'm thinking lots of plants & White & gold or copper accessories. The curtain fabric I was originally considering is out of question now..I've struggled to get samples anyway..

Hi Mira,

Looking at the colours chosen in your fabrics and the fact you want an industrial look with the concrete and a like, I would go for a light grey.

You need it to be light to make sure your still getting plenty of natural light bounced around and this should work well.

To add impact, if you want, I would add some accessories in one of the pinks from the fabric and then some iron work maybe in taps and the concrete table legs.

The pink will help soften the coldness and hardness of the concrete and grey.

It should be a lovey space eventually so well done. I look forward to seeing it.

Thank you Gina. I did think of grey but worried it wouldn't go with the stoney splashback - what do you think? What about greyish pink? I've tested Peignor by F&B but it looks too lilac rather than grey pink as advertised..

Can you not remove the picture rail, that would then raise the ceiling height? If not I'd be tempted to use 'natural calico' or thereabouts on the ceiling and above the rail. Below this you could use a yellow, something like 'Babouche' F&B, a beautiful colour. I wouldn't have a feature wall though, with the picture rail and fire surround you,have enough going on already. Might sound crazy but a subtle two tone might work not colour blocking but a gradual subtle shade diff a soft off white blue grey teal on top that will not fight against the very bright white window frames and keeping a small room light.. and then getting to a soft blue grey darker teal colour with a soft graded border. And consider painting the unit soft white with an all surface soft white mat or soft sheen paint. Pop up a large piece B&W family photo or a family picked piece of wall art or something wacky like a giant gold fish on a white background framed in a thin bright orange frame and job done...or look up dark snugs/dens with rich bold colours can work well if done correctly .. good luck..

hello. That's not a lot of info to go with, but lets see... do you know what style of decor you generally prefer? do you like wood? if you like this kind of look, you could have white walls and black cabinets. or you could go for white cabinets and grey walls. now for colour: any dramatic and bold colour for either cabinets or walls, and white for the other. I suggest you browse pictures on houzz, refining your search to grey floor, and get some ideas. also, if you have any other info of the kitchen you could share, please do

Hi,

Thank you for your email.

The colour I suggested there is actually farrow and ball Calluna which has pinky/purple undertones.
I would need to paint some on the wall next to the tiles to test.. Remember to do a large test not a small square as it won't show properly.

I would also suggest Wevet as that would go well with the tiles.

If you have a tester of the floral material. Tack this to the wall next to the samples and tiles and leave it for a few days, it's worth seeing it all types of light at different times of day but also to see how you feel a bit it for a longer period of time.

Love this blue. I think you should paint every wall this colour and then break it up with pale framed artwork and window dressings.

That's some food for thought Jonathan! As you can expect I'm worried it will be too dark.. We do love this colour though and dark wall colours in general actually. I'll present the idea to my partner and see what he says :)

I love this colour too and have similar plans to put on feature wall of our extended kitchen diner once it's finished although our extension is north facing so will really have to choose a warm grey or greige colour. Can you post a picture of the wall you've done?have you looked at Dulux greige?

I'll take a picture later on when back home. I think I've looked at every colour now :D greige is nice it'd go with inchyra blue well I'd say. I think the dilemma in my kitchen is what colour goes with the natural stone splashback and too much oak effect (worktop/flooring) I'd want a little contrast..I think :D

We've gone for a Quartz grey/white worktop and will have wooden floors throughout. I debated all sorts of floor finishing too but I wanted the same material in the whole space and I find tiles a bit cold especially as we've a crawling baby. Plus I find all tiles a bit slippy when wet so that helped me decide

Mira,

It would say it is definitely the right idea to go for a grey.

I like the second one down on your samples and will be interested to see it in a larger sample with the fabric as discussed.

I think you will be able to pick that colour out in the tiles of the splash back.

I would also suggested looking for a larger piece of Art for the wall by the dining table or a large mirror that will that reflect light into that side of the room. You may also consider painting the base of the dining table in different shade or tone of the same grey you use.

Thanks Gina. The 2nd one down is Crushed cotton 1 by Dulux. I do like the combination with blue wall as well as the tiles to be honest. But it's much more pink than grey (although I do keep saying to my partner that it is a pinkish grey to stop him rejecting it :D). I've attached another picture. Yes a mirror is a must on that wall and some artwork too. Have got a gold ornate mirror ready to hung somewhere but not sure if it'll go with the kitchen scheme. We'll see when it comes to it. Dining table a coordinating chairs will hopefully disappear soon once the budget allows new ones :) I can repaint in the meantime I guess. Ok the plan is I'll get few more greige samples and calamine and maybe a lighter shade of Crushed cotton as this one is too pink for my partner to digest I'm afraid :( and the fabric sample.

Oh yes, that's a better photo.. It is quite pink!
You need that a little dark grey added :)

what did you do in the end Mira? I love Inchyra blue and it looks fab in your kitchen, really rich! how do you find the colour? I am trying to build up the courage to paint my whole sitting room (south facing but does not get a huge amount of natural light) inchyra blue and wondering will it be cold. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Hi Caroline..well, my partner got fed up with me taking time deciding and painted most of the room in inchyra blue :D it's a nice deep colour. It does make the room feel darker but somewhat cosier too. And we're fans of dark colours anyway. I still can't decide whether it's the right colour for our kitchen but I guess it will look different when accessorised. If you love the colour and think it will go with your other items just do it :) it's only a paint at the end of the day and you can easily repaint. I'll try to take a picture for you later.

I'm in a similar dilemma Caroline!trying to see if it'll work in my south facing sitting room or my North facing kitchen diner. Am determined to use it somewhere! Dulux moda in greige is nice with it
