Need help with an 8 year old's tiny bedroom!
Comments (10)Sorry, I've done this on a basic app in a bit of a hurry, but I hope you get it. Basically, I've imagined something like in the photos below, but with Ikea cabinets instead of bespoke built-ins. Single bed size is 91x190cm, you have just enough space for 2 Billy bookcases at both ends. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60265281/#/00263850 I thought you could suspend a unit along the side of the bed - it's up to you if you have it or not - if not, make it look like the 3rd or 4th pic. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S09017826/ I've placed the wardrobe in front of the door - not the best, but.... http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S39006609/ Not sure where radiator and window are, but hopefully I'm not too far off - a cover would look nice and give more storage space. Desk - tricky, but it can go either as a wide shelf on that wall, or like in the second pic, or a unit instead of the radiator cover at the end of the wardrobe... http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S29035891/ Hope this helps, good luck!...See MoreWould like to redo this storage room into a bedroom
Comments (150)Hey SB, I just got the updates you posted today so time difference and life business adds to not being on here. I'm glad you like the color palette. I would go for the light blue or turquoise on the walls rather than the navy because of the small room. I hope the ABA works well for you. I've heard good things about it from others I'm in a Facebook group with. We are well here. Band competitions have been our life since mid-September after school began. They end next week. Comments (4)Hi. You would need to be very supple for this (!) but you could bring the bed forward and add a clothes rail behind. Use a curtain to disguise most of the storage. Layer the bed with cushions and throws so it becomes the focal point. Agree with headers re storage bed, look for one that front opens or has front drawers and store items in there that you don't need frequently. I'd use the cupboard for bags and shoes so as to try and keep the rest of the room as clutter free as possible. Can you paint the room? A cooler colour may make it feel very marginally bigger as the cream/beige looks a little warm. I'd keep the chest of drawers in the same as the ŵall colour so they blend in and add colour for cushions etc. Mirrors will make a room feel bigger but im not sure where they would fix. Perhaps go for a wider cabinet to the left of the door and add a free standing mirror on top? Or alternatively look at mirrored caninet/s...See MoreTiny tween bedroom
Comments (5)Without a plan of the space it's difficult to say whether a mezzanine would work but they have many of the drawbacks of loft beds. With such low ceilings and a tiny room you might be best off looking at folding beds (Murphy beds). You can buy off the shelf beds which transform into desks with no need to keep taking all the stuff of the desk or remove all the bedding (I think you'd need to take off the duvet though). Have a look at StudyBed.co.uk for an example. They're expensive but then fitting a mezzanine would be too. Alternatively there are various plans for Murphy beds which a local carpenter (or good DIYer) could follow or adapt for less. One possibility would be folding bed on one wall and desk on the opposite wall....See MoreLaura Thomas
