dark hallway
Comments (22)Hi. I like colourhappys suggestion or embrace the dark. Have a look at farrow and ball railings or Hague blue, both work well in small rooms. I'd paint everything in the same colour up to the cornicing. Go for an off white ceiling, if you want to highlight the cornicing more, go a shade darker than the ceiling. Do you have lighting at the moment? A couple of pendant lights would be great, plus a couple of mirrors, maybe even opposite each other by that end door. Warm Metallics work well against these blue/greys so maybe mirror frames in bronze etc. You could also look into cleaning the floor, the colours look fantastic once cleaned (I'm clearly not suggesting your floor is dirty btw!)...See MoreDark, cottage hallway ideas!
Comments (20)I remember when the modern WM collection came out and thought they were stunning. I can't really see upstairs walls properly as to suitability for wallpaper but the one to the left of the stairs on the ground floor would look great. You could consider applying decorators varnish (polyvine) over the top to protect the paper from getting dirty? Test a piece first though. Also choose a scrubbable paint for the other walls, something like Little Greene intelligent eggshell is great (although the slight sheen will show up any plaster Imperfections but it will also bounce a little light). I like the rugs although do see Sonia's point re the ground floor one 😂 Great idea for books/display. Just thinking as you're decorating anyway you could install downlights and keep the pendants rather than run other lights off it? I'm not a huge downlights fan but they do serve a purpose! Maybe run them off a separate switch to the pendants?...See MoreShould I paint my hallway dark?
Comments (22)Well the half wall is down :) I have a carpenter on the way to look at boxing in the pillar with the fuse boxes and cutting the step either diagonally across or circular. I'm thinking about replacing the carpet with a runner and assume I could do that with either shape? I'm either going for F&B Stiffkey Blue (2 in from the left, second up from the bottom), F&B Hague Blue (2 in from the right, second up from the bottom) or Valspar Play me a melody (first column, second from the top). Stiffkey and the Valspar are looking a bit too blue and Hague Blue may be too dark so going to paint bigger areas and see how they come out....See MoreWhat colour tiles for dark Victorian hallway?
Comments (6)As Sonia said - there is a huge array of Victorian tiles! I can highly recommend a company in Derby called Alternative Tiles (they work nationally too) - they specialise in Victorian tiles. When I had my small porch done, I gave them my measurements and they asked what kind of colours I liked. They then did a few different designs for me on their computer. The tiles that you posted from Topps are nice - but because they are essentially normal tiles, they don’t give you much variety or many options. If you go for a more authentic version such as the ones that Sonia has shared or the type that I described, you will get a truly bespoke end product. Be warned though - it’s not cheap because you need a specialist to lay them! We joke that our (tiny) porch is the most expensive square metre in our entire house. The tiles used in the more authentic versions are usually from a company called Original Style. I’ve hopefully linked their Victorian brochure. https://www.originalstyle.com/media/106774/original-style_vft_june-2019.pdf...See MoreCasa Colori
