Living room with lots of doors and big empty space - help!
Comments (25)Hi lovely space and I love the way natural light floods in. I have a couple of suggestions: 1. Two rugs not one to add warmth and colour you could then have a smaller matching rug at the end of the room that you quite rightly call an empty space. 2. Consider using a bracket to move the television onto the wall. Your plan showing the TV on the right looks good but if you used that plan then the TV would look best above the fireplace...that may be too high for comfortable viewing though. 3. A floor lamp where the plant is would give light and extra interest to that far corner especially if the plant is large enough to be placed in front or slightly to one side of the lamp. 4. At least one other lamp table and lamp beside the sofa 5. The empty area....obviously tight for space when the French doors open into the lounge but you may be able to fit either a narrow console or a larger piece of art with a narrow shelf beneath to fill that wall. Coupled with the rug you will be surprised how that will be enough to allow freedom of movement through that space and yet make the room feel whole instead of in two parts. I like your mix of furniture style which makes it easier for you to consider using sites like Freecycle or Craig's list to acquire a few extra pieces without breaking the bank. And if hubby is good aT DIY a narrow shelf will be a doddle you could also check out Houzz for ideas how to make a large piece of art to go above it too...See MoreBig enough for range cooker?
Comments (7)Thanks for comments, this isn't my kitchen, appliance layout yet to be decided for mine, not sure if we will have a dishwasher at all but I have had the same advice in the past about not putting it in corner and will keep that in mind. Although I know that the full size range will 'fit' I am wondering more on an aesthetics level, if it will look odd having a huge cooker in this size of space?...See MoreDesign Advice for 3.5x3.9m Living/Dining Room with 3 Doors & 2 Windows
Comments (9)Hi there! You can put the dining table next to the kitchen door, which would help you organise the space and fit for purpose. I personally prefer a round table as that gives you a little more space. For the living room the armchair must be small, we do not want the space to appear narrower. You can enclose the space with an ottoman, to have a complete living room. I recommend that you put the sofa facing the kitchen door, that way you have an integrated space. Here's a little sketch to illustrate what I mean. Comments (5)Hi. I think this will be fine. I would put the table at the top of your plan near the windows and the door to the garden. I would then put your kitchen on the right hand side of the wall that you enter and then up the right wall and have a peninsula coming from the right hand wall across the middle of the room. If you leave about 3m for the dining side that leaves you 2.5m for the kitchen area which is the 60cm back row of tall units (where I would have the fridge and ovens) a 1m gap with units on the right (probably your sink) and then a 90cm wide peninsula for your hob and you could have bar stools tucked under a 30cm overhang on the dining side (but be mindful of safety/spatter issues). It’s worth plotting it out to see if it would work. Not sure where your washing machine would fit once you get rid of the utility but could it maybe go under the stairs if there is enough space taking into account the cloakroom? Anyway, that’s what I would be investigating....See MoreJade Davis
