How can I make this more cosy!?
Comments (22)You need warm tones and a mixture of textures. Persoanally, I would have a large fluffy rug by the sofa and drape throws on the sofa to soften the edges. I am sure the landlord would want you to make the property comfortable. After all, a happy tenant is more likely to look after the place. Also, have you considered buying some large wicker trunks for the little ones toys. If you stack them they will look nice and protect the windows. Also, being trunks, they will look nice from both the hall and the living room area...See MoreHow can I make this kitchen cool?
Comments (18)Personally I'd keep it really simple and light. Paint the upper cabinets to tone with the tiles, or think about replacing the doors with glazed ones—more practical than open shelving, but a similar spacious look. If you were feeling really adventurous you could paper the back of them with mirror leaf/silver leaf for a reflective glow that would also open out the space further. I like the idea of painting the lower doors charcoal (or a warmer grey if you prefer), your room looks very bright so it can take it. A vibrant long rectangular image along the end wall to visually widen the space, characterful rugs and some cheerful kitchen paraphernalia/flowers and I think you'd have a lovely space! You're very lucky, it's really just tweaking....See MoreHow can I make our bland 1970's exterior more appealing?!
Comments (12)It all comes down to budget as always. The bigger the budge the more you can do. I would be really mindful of the fact, that if you change the facade, it would be better if you could change the windows. The wood cladding I agree would look fabulous, you could have the bottom a lovely grey to tone in. However, neither will look good with bog standard white windows, as both look better with a dark grey, thinner Aluminium Frame or a Chunkier Sandy Beige Frame. When you add white windows, the effect is not quite so slick The pic above shows the white windows with the cladding and it would look a lot better with the darker, thinner frames. If you can't afford to change or colour bond the windows, then maybe go for all over colour, a dark grey would be good, and consider changing the Front door for impact. Alternatively, work towards doing the ultimate change. The vertical wood cladding, with a grey underneath and a door to match the wood. Thinner dark pewter aluminium framed windows etc. sorry about the mock up quality!...See MoreI’m renovating a 1950’s build. how can I make ceilings appear higher?
Comments (5)I agree about pendant lights being a no no but expensive to change all to spotlights if not already done. You could paint the walls and ceilings the same colour to blur the line of where the ceiling starts. Hang your curtains (if you have them) from the ceiling for maximum height. You can buy the tracks really easily now....See MoreGrem U
