How do you decorate sash windows with Plantation Shutters fitted?

Hi

Finally getting around to some decorating and we have plantation shutters fitted. Do you remove the entire shutter and frame to allow you access to decorate or work around it? It might be obvious but I think if I leave the shutter/frame in place we won't the decorator might not be able to do a great job on the windows.

In this instance I would suggest removing the shutters, that way they won't be in the way and they can then be painted separately.

But I would definitely ask the decorator in question as they may have a good reason for leaving them up in your specific case.

Thanks - I am thinking this is the only way to get a really good decorate job is to remove the shutters/frames.

I love both but it depends on the property and the overall style of the house. I have decided that shutters/venetian blinds make rooms darker, gather dust and are fairly 'heavy' to look at, so, not for me. All others options are quite ok according to the situation of the property and personal taste. However, if you yourself like shutters or venetian blinds, then they are ok too, just don't expect me to have them. All boils down to he/she who pays the piper calls the tune.

I supply plantation shutters and manufacture Roman blinds. I think they would both work well. Shutters do offer the better light control and privacy. If you had shutters, you can have them split into two sections. You can keep the bottom section closed to shield you from the sun whilst eating, but at the same time have the top section of louvred open the keep the room light . I have both in my own home , which is very contemporary. The wider louvres are very easy to clean and maintain and also allow more light to flow through when required. All Roman blinds have to pass the child safety regulations now , there are two really good chain systems and both are very easy to operate . The new quick release gear system offers a lot more flexibility for not much extra cost.

Good news! I got a quote to replace the glass in the bottom half of my windows and it’s £580!! I am so happy. The windows are still ok even though they are over 20 years old to replace the glass will see me through for a bit longer. Will post the results at the end 😀
