How can we improve our lounge?
Comments (12)I'm not sure making the fireplace look heavier would be a good idea. However rather than fight the off centre I would work with it. Possibly wall hang the TV to the right of the fireplace it looks as if that would make it quite good for viewing from the sofa. Get a bigger rug which would still be off centred but would pull in/integrate the soa area more. I wouldn't put the TV in front of the window as the blockage of the view could feel negative and if the sun shines through during the day difficult to see TV without drawing curtains. What about a mirror above the fireplace you seem to have a window at each end of the space so a mirror could act like a third window reflecting light and giving weight to that are away from the TV. A window seat could work nicely....See Morewhat should we do with our kitchen/tv room
Comments (7)Changing the worktops to a light colour will make all the difference. I've just had a new kitchen installed and even in a small area - about 2.5 metre sq - having a white worktop has completely transformed the area. The previous matt black surface just absorbed all the light. I've painted the walls white as well (previously a creamy colour) and now the area is so bright I've had to buy a blind for the window! Therefore, I'd suggest staying with the layout and looking at the colours for your new kitchen rather than creating unnecessary openings that will mean you lose cupboard space or other rooms. It's not just style, but function that is also important, if the space does not work for you, you will soon fall out of love with the house....See MoreImprove front of our 1960's semi-detached bungalow please
Comments (2)Pick a colour that complements the neighbours, paint the wood. Put some trellis on the wood, paint same colour and grow a flowering climber there. Move the shrubs somewhere else (I like to not get rid of stuff that can be used elsewhere) perhaps off to the right and make the border into a more defined shape (a curve would look nicer. Fill with lavender and rosemary and pop weed suppressant and decorative bark or stone (bark is cheaper)....See MoreCan we make our 1960s internal glass doors meet building regs?
Comments (15)We had 1960s glass in double sliding doors that we replaced with safety glass when grandchildren came arrived. Shortly after, a friend's wee boy fell downstairs and went through a non safety glass door to a vestibule and cut an artery. You can imagine the panic. Fortunately he was blue lighted quickly to hospital and was ok. We were relieved for them all and glad we had done what we could to prevent an accident like this in our house. I would replace the glass if I were you....See MoreShaw Stairs Ltd
