Updating 1960's house exterior
Comments (46)This is what the exterior looks like so far. We have been approved planning permission to extend single storey, front and side With sky lantern. we are set on a flat roof with wildflower and sedum. Considering keeping the tiles. front door will be moved forward and there will be a window on the left. Not sure what the new render should be for the extension? Brick ? Trying to keep all costs down but Still have a Clean and contemporary finish...... I realise now I should have been braver with the windows! Tut tut!!!...See MoreHelp with the frontage of a 1960's house!
Comments (7)Hello Barbara, I do have to say I love the wooden cladding! Definitely take off that glass front porch.. I would also consider wooden window and front door, so you could paint it, however I have just discovered a product that paints plastic so you can then use a coloured paint! I think it would be fabulous to duplicate the wooden half all round.. Take off the glass front porch and see how it looks without one.. Then decide what to do about the stone cladding.. I have to say removing that 1 part alone (porch) is really going to transform your home but I have to say on seeing that wooden cladded part, I'm pretty sold on that! A new drive sounds good and light stone gravel could be nice and perhaps all round.. I would timber the rest and gravel.. Lovely! . : ))...See MoreExterior design on a ex council home
Comments (36)White and brick is a classic and you really can't go wrong with it. But it does look a bit old and faded. Try looking up companies that do brick cleaning and sand blasting and perhaps reponting in a colour. (they mix the colour to match the bricks or another colour. The thin lines, when viewed from far, can alter the perceived colour of the bricks.- For example if you wanted a ';yellow brick house' but you 're stuck with brown, repointing in yellow will pick up the yellow tones in the brown brick and it will be yellow. Same goes for the other colours found in the brick. examine which colours are present in your current brick closely. Use a magnifying glass if you have to! You will be amazed and all the colours present in there. Then sandblast and have fun. Do this before you change the windows, as sand blasting can be damaging to the upvc, and then repoint after replacing windows. Depending on the colour the walls come out- Ask for samples on a north and south walls- then choose a black frame (for example with black poinitng) or white with the lighter colours. After a decade or two, then I would look at rendering, but for the moment, try the conservative route since the rendered look can't easily be reversed...See MoreHelp with ugly 1960s house
Comments (15)I think the first thing to do would be to paint the wood or look to reclad - could go for a tile? I think the biggest issue may the be rest of the terrace and those around you, so you may not want to go all out. subtle changes you make will likely have the biggest impact...See MoreA Babbsy
