How to improve look of front porch

Comments (13)Good afternoon everyone! We are blown away by the amazing response we have had from this community, thank you everyone for your feedback. We are especially grateful to Jonathan for his valuable feedback.. the idea is genius and makes so much sense! Thank you so much Jonathan for taking out the time to help us! I have never seen my husband so impressed by an idea so much!! I have attached a couple more photos showing view of the garage from the front of the house along with the entrance gate itself into the property. I have also attached a copy of our floor plan. We would really appreciate your thoughts on what we could to with the garage and front exterior in terms of: Garage walls - What do you think about the brick work? Worth keeping, or should we clad? Garage roof - We currently have an unsightly metal sheet. We don’t want to fully rebuild but we’ve seen light weight roofing for garages which look like tiling. Any suggestions or thoughts on this? Front exterior - We’re looking to improve kerb appeal of the house from the front, any ideas welcome (cladding, paint, stone work?) Windows - these are the original single pane windows which unfortunately come with poor insulation. Any thoughts on what to do for those? Further to the front patio suggestion, is it worth installing an entrance which leads straight into the kitchen through the current ‘Study’? See floor plan. (We are planning to extend the current kitchen by a further 2.5m towards the rear garden). Any ideas, suggestions and comments will be really appreciated, thank you for your help!...See MoreCan anything be done to improve the front of my house?
Comments (10)Oh thank you so much everyone for your ideas! I'm looking at it so differently now. I believe the house is an interwar ex local authority semi, but I googled some pictures as suggested and it does look older? Thank you ring, sarh123 Jonathan and Beano for your advice about the windows. Looking at it now, I think they are the reason I don't like the look of the house, particularly the downstairs window. Unfortunately sarh123, your lovely pictures have sold me on the multipane look which I probably can't afford right now! I will get a quote though just in case. Love the ideas for colours for the garage etc. Forzaitalia, do you have a particular paint colour in mind that would give the green/grey look like in the picture? The blue/black looks really good too though. Would it still look ok with the windows left white colourhappy? I'm looking forward to cutting back those trees too! The pictures of the planters are gorgeous and will definitely take on board what you have all said. I don't think I can remove the tree by the garage as it is not on my land though. The front door is old and not very secure so I don't know what to do with it yet. I agree, emanuelle that the window to the side doesn't look very good and the stone cladding on the bottom will probably look terrible when i have cut the trees back. I will have to see how the budget goes for that though as there is a lot to do inside - it is a bit of a mess in there... but at least it is mine:) It's amazing what a few pairs of fresh eyes can do so thank you very much!!!...See MoreHow do I improve the kerb appeal of my new house?
Comments (6)Aesthetics aside, you could consider some life-style-technology? Consider getting great Wifi around the home and then adding some intelligent lighting from Lightwave - these affordable units could mean simple control over a few lighting circuits: have a scene that comes on when it gets dark? A scene for evening meal or chilling in the sitting room? And dont forget the front door or garden lighting. Add to this a Ring door bell and even some control over the heating [also done via lightwave] to keep the costs down but also gives easy control. When people read about these life-style options they may see this a nice premium over and above the other homes they're viewing. Good luck...See MoreCarole Wood
