Comments (10)A 20mm gap is far to much to have as the upstands are only 20mm thick, if the fitters tried to fit the upstands to the walls then it would slip down the back. The overhang of the worktop to the front of the cabinets, depending on the depth of the cabinets, should be between 30-40mm all round, be worthwhile checking this out. When you say the tap doesn't fit easily, is it that the hole is to small (35mm) or does the tap hit the upstand. I assume the kitchen (base units at least) were all in place and fitted before templating and haven't moved between template and worktop installation. I think the fitters have tried to make the best out of a bad job and something went wrong in either templating or fabrication. Your supplier should still have the physical templates so I'd definitely go back to them. There's always a bit of filling to be done between the upstands and the wall with decorators caulk as no wall is flat and upstands don't bend. Modern dob and dab walls are some of the worst i've seen. Hopefully its decorators caulk and not silicon thats been used....See MoreAdvice on colour schemes for our new kitchen please
Comments (8)I have dove grey handleless doors in my kitchen but have the same colour all round and on the island too. I painted the walls in Wevet which is almost a white but with a mere hint of grey. You can only really tell the grey tone when it’s against the white ceiling join. On the wall at the far end where the dining table is I have wallpaper to add a bit of interest. Perhaps these are options for you?...See Morekitchen paint wall colour advice Pls
Comments (14)If those kitchen units are sound it appears they suit the character of the building. It seems a shame to plan on ripping them out. If anything it is the colour of them that is wrong. I would find a tile that I loved and do all the splashback up to the wall cupboards including the cooker back and remove the little upstand from the worksurface too. Get the units professionally repainted to compliment the tiling. Dispense with the roller blind and maybe get a painted wooden venetian then get a large rug to make it all feel more cosy. A bit more than a paint job but a lot less disruptive than a whole new kitchen....See MoreAbdul
