Time to revive this! Having had consultations with not one but two architects (Karin & Groveraxle were both right; not very costly and money well spent) who both offered up good suggestions and helped me come up with a plan of work for the house. I have had building contractors tendering for the work and have just this morning settled on the firm I am going to use. Work on the house will begin before the end of the month and is scheduled to take 6 weeks. There will be no structural changes to the outside but a little bit inside which will give me a bigger kitchen and will open up the living space somewhat. Also master bedroom is being reworked to add an en-suite, structural reworking of hallway and cloakroom - it will look so different and yet quite evidently the same house which is what I wanted :) Lots of cosmetic changes to take place externally and internally which is the bit I have been looking forward to. You are all invited back to help me make firm decisions about paint colours, wood varnishes, light fittings, flooring type, worktop choice et al! The journey continues :)

I love all the art you have chosen for this room....and the bit of yellow in them totally work. I was nervous about the size of a few, so grouping is a good idea. I think the largest one can work alone and the other two can maybe stack?

My first thought is that the bed looks a little close to the furniture across from the foot of it. I might try the bed on the window wall and instead of the piece on the wall that has the door, eliminate it and get two bedside table pieces with storage to accommodate whatever you were going to store in the piece across from the foot of the bed in your plan. I like beige and gray schemes in the bedroom too, and find some live green plants add a perfect spot of color, or perhaps a kind of acid green silk texture throw pillow. My suggestion is to browse Houzz photos and save the color schemes that you really love! Adding something sparkly will pep up a design that you think is too monochromatic as well - some silver or crystal bling? I added some bling-y chandeliers on either side of the bed in one of my bedrooms, which is fairly monochromatic in beige and gray tones. Some of the throw pillows also have a silvery touch in them.

Yes, the brush marks don't appear visible and the finish of the plaster itself (including directional marks etc) remain visible. A word of caution though I have also used Polyvine over painted walls (flat matt paint and flat matt polyvine) and on the painted surface I do see more brush marks. It's not terrible but (to my eye at least) you can see the application marks. I used the polyvine to add extra protection on the wall going up the stairs which is always subject to scuffs and knocks. At first I just took the Polyvine half way up the wall but it was very obvious where it stopped. I ended up just doing the whole wall with the Polyvine nd that looks a lot better and you don't particularly notice a difference between the trated wall and the other untreated ones. evident where it stopped and t
