New windows for mock tudor house

We live in a close of 6 houses and all have diamond leaded windows. We are replacing our windows and contemplating having plain windows rather than diamond leaded.

1. Would this suit a mock tudor frontage (have browsed the net and all seem to have leaded windows)

2. Would it look out of place amongst all the other houses who have kept the leaded windows.

I shouldn't worry about your home looking out of place, it's much nicer to be individual. Plain windows will look much nicer, it's the frame colour that's important. As long as the frame blends with the rest of the house, i think it will look a lot nicer.

We had diamond leaded on the bays of our 30s semi. I hated them and was so glad when we could finally afford to replace them. We also ensured the new windows had the correct number and size of panes, as the ones we removed weren't the same as the originals (two panes rather than three across the front) and looked completely wrong. It felt like prison bars had been removed. If you don't like diamond leaded I would get rid and get something else that goes with the house - I think the advice above is good. Think about frame colour, width and number of panes.

Hi. That looks a lovely house. The beams on this house are painted in farrow and ball mouses' back which should look nice with your tiles and chimney. I also think drop cloth could look lovely ( a stone but doesn't have the green undertone) but it may be too light as I would choose 2 shades darker than normal for exteriors really. Or you could paint the render in it and go for lighter or darker beams. Hopefully some nice houzzers can do a render for you in your preferred colour as painting can be very expensive!

I agree with darker - I think the reason the light door PP posted looks good is the style. A light colour with a modern design wouldn't have the same effect. This a Cromwellian house in Herefordshire fitted with one of our stainless steel Letterplates and the door colour looks great with the black and white. The porch timber is paler than the rest of the house timbers (you can just see the black window frame to the right) and is a modern addition but as it's still a shade of grey it all works well together. All looks a bit dark. I would consider painting it an off white with anthracite windows. I'd also change the colour of the mock Tudor wood grey as well.

Yes I think we've all got one of those groups, Sonia. Like to post pictures of dog poo and badly parked cars on a daily basis!! Been to Hitchin myself some years ago and seem to remember a nice place called The Sun Inn and a fabulous farmers market. Sorry to hijack original post. Happen to like the softer grey wood myself as well. Perhaps it would be useful to get a mock up done before you make your mind up.

For me, the most important thing would be not to have plastic windows. Leaded lights can look great. So can plain.
