Decorative tiles

Can you tell me where you found the decorative tiles that are on the stairs? They are a beautiful complement to the terra cotta tiles and Spanish style of the house! Thanks!

I found those particular tiles at Discount Tile in Los Angeles (8627 Venice Blvd) but they are widely available and not particularly expensive.

I believe that most of the expense in refurbishing a bathroom is in the labour. You can buy a very cheap toilet and sink, but it will cost you a lot to fit it in. To spend as little as possible, I would suggest painting the room a darker colour and see what you think. This will make a big difference. Perhaps a darker grey in the same tone as one of the colours in the tiles. The best thing about paint is that it is easy to change if you don't like it. You can replace the sink taps cheaply and if you can find a towel radiator that fits in the same plumbing spot that will save you plastering. You can replace the shower hose with a shiny new one and get a new clip to hold a new shower head on the wall. You can put a long, silver towel rail on the wall above the radiator and hang a nice, fluffy towel there! If you get a bigger, more modern (plain) mirror on the wall and move all of your personal items out of there the room will look less cluttered. Give it a mega good scrubbing as well and you will enjoy using your new room. Let me know when you want to refurbish the whole thing but for now that will make a low cost alternative. Although I particularly like those sparkly black tiles, and I do agree, sometimes black can give a glamorous feel to a room, I feel as though an all-black bathroom would make it feel significantly smaller, which is why I chose white. White can open up a room a little better, giving the impression that the room is a little bigger (despite being a nightmare when it comes to showing dirt). This bathroom we designed is mainly white with hints of black like the bathtub and a feature wall: the best of both worlds.

Hello. There are a couple of options with regards to metro tile trim depending on the look you are after. To keep it simple, clean and more contemporary go for a small pencil trim alternatively there are bevel trims which are more authentic to the metro tile look but chunkier and more decorative. When tiling bath panels please remember the underside of the bath needs to be accessible for plumbing maintenance reasons so either create an access panel or ensure the whole of the bath panel is still removable. The bathroom will look bigger if you use the floor tiles.

Hi there, was really interested by your post, as we are looking to bring a very similar set of tiles into one of our bathroom displays at our showroom! Our approach, though, is a bit different - we're opting for this on the floor and going for stone-effect porcelain tiles on the walls with just a narrow "band" of this in behind the shower itself. Part of the thinking is that while these tiles are very popular at present, we feel that they have a "shelf life", and it will be easier to redo a floor than a wall against which units, shower screens etc. have been mounted. In a smallish space (as our display "pod" will be, we find that a heavily patterned floor with simpler walls helps keep the space seem roomier - a heavily patterned wall can be a little oppresive after a while. At the end of the day, though, it has to be what you feel you want yourself.
