What colour furniture in bedroom-grey walls, black curtains, black bed

Hi

As per my title, can you please help me decide what colour furniture to have in the bedroom.

I have bought a black leather bed (in the first photo) and keeping the black curtains which are already in the room. The curtain on the right hand side is going to be removed and replaced with a door. I also wish to replace the light fitting.

I really like mirrored furniture to make the room appear bigger but with young children and not a lot of spare time, is this going to be a big mistake?

Black furniture i was told would make the room even smaller and would white furniture even go with the black bed and grey wallpaper, and other grey walls?

I would have a bedside cabinet either side of the bed, and on the wall you can't see i would put a wardrobe against the window, a chest of drawers in the middle with a telly on top and a dressing table on the other side.

Help!! If you could message with ideas on how to make the room look nice, I would be really appreciative xxx

I voted for white, with which I mean a white wardrobe. But you don't have to buy all matching furniture. You could do a white wardrobe with mirrored doors (Ikea's Pax for example) and white bedside tables with matching chest of drawers, and a different dressing table if you have the space for it (I picked a grey one from Made.com). If you don't have space for a dressing table, you could have a small table double up as a nightstand and a dressing table maybe.

What about aged Venetian mirrored furniture - gives you the glam mirrored look but slightly more forgiving re finger marks and small children ? Here's just two examples .....

I must have tried every grey shade as samples in the past few weeks as I want a very light grey. Farrow & Ball do a nice mid grey called Plummet. Dulux mix lab also do some nice ones & can be mixed in a flat matt. I am having a pale grey bedroom with a white bed & probably black side tables. I love silver with grey too but copper is also nice. You can also paint it again if you don't like the shade (that is what I am telling myself !).

Nice room, love the bed and bedspread. I can't find one ATM but I would repeat the wood for a bed end stool (but not with clashing legs as shown!) as it looks as if you've got the room. If you can't find an upholstered one then go for wood and add a cushion/s and throw (I'd drape a throw in either case, preferably a fringed one). I tried a brighter lampshade and the green and I think I prefer the green (they are a bit bigger than they should be as I couldn't shrink them Plus the chandelier could go lower!). I'd choose a pleated lamp shade for texture and add oval mirrors. I did try cushions on the bed but it seemed too lovely to cover! I'd also paint the radiator in the wall colour

For a vintagey feel and with tall Victorian windows, Anthropologie have some lovely curtains. I particularly like these, they are called Petra and are velvet with a contrasting coloured edge.

Thank you both, i like the idea of a white mirrored wardrobe and also love the dressing table night stand at the side of the bed - where did you find this? I can't find one! Also, would a mirror look ok on the feature wall behind the dresser? Thanks again :) xx

I'm glad you like the ideas I gave you. In all honesty, I wouldn't personally choose a mirrored wardrobe. I'd rather choose glass or gloss doors (also available in the Ikea Pax series).

Not quite sure what you mean with the feature wall behind the dresser. I thought you wanted your TV to go above the dresser?

If you can, post a sketch of the layout of your room, with measurements and where doors and windows are and the size of your new bed. That would give us a better idea of the space.

Hi Suzie, could you perhaps do something a bit out of the box and choose something that is a splash of colour? Like a found object? Chinese ceramic stools? you can also go to vintage fairs etc. Or some companies source and stock interesting pieces. This is one : http://www.retrouvius.com/stock/storage I think more grey would be dull, more black would indeed make the room feel too small. I quite like the idea of timber for your chest of drawers etc. Difficult to visualise the space thought! Colour choice is pretty personal. I am partial to blues and purples.. but that is just me! Go with your gut! Good luck!

a mix of finish would be nice not everything has to match E.G mirror bed side units and grey wash furniture,or even gold you could scan round the 2nd hand shops and re spray or paint something if you are ok at a bit of up dating items
