En-suite Design Advice Needed...

Long time interested houzz observer but never posted before so...

Revamping ensuite from master bedroom. I've stripped it all out so I've got a blank canvas to play with. It's aprox. 2000 x 2000mm and I've already purchased the tanking kit and recessed tray to make it a wetroom, and purchased enough marble 610 x 400mm tiles as per the picture and started running the first fix plumbing. I'm stuck on the sanitary ware... looking at wall hung draw unit with free standing basin... gloss white? Walnut? Wenge? will have to be a close coupled toilet because I haven't got enough room in the layout to have a concealed cistern... shower: vertical mosaic feature strip? Ceiling mounted drench head?...

You've got it all sorted, so be confident croppo. My extra advice would be that your close coupled w.c. should have side spats or a design which will conceal the SVP. Don't ignore the lighting it will bring that special ambience into this personal space

cheers Robert Way Designers. I had considered making a feature which would conceal the waste as it has to run above the joists for a section unfortunately. i'd also like to include some concealed lighting - any advice on what to look for that's suitable for a wetroom/bathroom environment please?

Hi Sam, The obvious comment is not to go too dark. Don't be scared to go for big tiles. We use big tiles in all our projects and in the showroom and doesn't effect it what so ever. I believe the bigger the better as there is less grout lines (and less to clean then). Maybe think about going for rectangle tiles for the floor and brick bind them. This way the grout lines can be positioned to make the room feel longer (like the picture I've attached). Please feel free to contact me if you want more advise on tile combinations. Gina, I'm not really sure why i put it there to be honest!! The suggestion to locate the shower as shown on Jonathan's plan obviously makes much more sense! Some of my design thought was based on me thinking the toilets would need to be on the same wall so as to use the same soil pipe, not sure if this is just my incorrect logic though!??? Jonathan, I understand what you are saying about incorporating the cupboard space into bedroom 3 but if you remember back the plan (see below) was to create a study/bedroom from the hallway, old wc and landing cupboard. It wouldn't be possible to do this if we divided bedroom 3 into two rooms as they'd be no access to the far bedroom. Your plan would leave me with no more bedrooms than i have now and with a smaller bed 3. We could of course incorporate the cupboard space into bed 3 rather than the bathroom, making it an even bigger room but I'm slightly reluctant to as this room is one that has been finished.

I'm struggling to visualise this, so here are some random comments which aren't very coherent but may just help. My architect was clear that when you go into a bathroom, ideally you shouldn't be able to see the toilet. If you can manage it, moving the toilet to where the shower is at present would achieve that and also tuck it nicely out of the way. I don't know if it would matter that you could probably hear the flush from the bedroom. I think you would need to put the bath under the window at the back, as in Nicola's lovely photo. For the shower, if you can manage one of those without a shower tray, again as in Nicola's photo, I think that would stop the room looking too narrow. If that is a chimney breast, sometimes it's possible to create a cupboard in the middle of it, which may be a storage option depending on structural safety. And other fairly invisible storage can be achieved by floor to wall cupboards, perhaps with a mirror door. To protect against flooding damage, you could either start the cupboard a bit above the floor or mount it on marine ply. Sorry, not a plan, but some random ideas.

Following with interest! I have something similar that needs renovating, but in an apartment, and no window - around 3500x1200. Personally, I wouldn't swap the loo and shower (I always prefer a loo to be near a window (!) and wouldn't lose a window ie valuable ventilation for the sake of a slightly bigger shower, but obviously it depends what's important to you). Maybe half tiling the non-shower areas is an option? The bathroom fitter may have clever solutions for fitting the right size tray into that width. Good luck!

Any shower lights should be fine. LED or halogen spotlights is the norm.

If you really want to go mad you can get rain shower heads with multicolour lighting incorporated. It'll be like showering in a multicolour monsoon. Mmmmmm

I would go for a walnut drawer unit and would not do a feature mosaic stripe. Just simple and chic.
