Tilt and turn Windows

Is anyone able to tell me if you are able to adjust how far a tilt and turn window opens?

I cannot find decent window coverings and detest the attached roller blinds and clip in blinds. I would like curtains / shutters and the width the window tilts open is too much to accommodate

You could consider using window restrictors, as these will allow you to stop the window opening very far. It's worth checking on whether they're suitable for use on tilt and turn windows, but we've got a range available that may be suitable - please see the link!

Thanks - but do you know if the window can be adjusted to restrict the depth it opens to?

You may be able to get this made to order from a window and door company. You can have cat / dog flaps fitted in glass, it doesn't have to be wood. We have one for our dogs, you order the flap, give it to the door company and they order it with the hole needed for the flap, which you then fit. I can't see why they couldn't put an openable window in it. If you're set on wood, then i'd just get a carpenter to make a window to fit the door and then re-glaze the portion underneath. I once put a stained glass window in a front door, if it's wood it's a lot easier to make all sorts.

Thanks for the above comments. It is basically a large picture window so a glazing bar or opening section would spoil the appearance. I don’t think a trickle vent would be sufficient. A tilt and turn would be ideal but it is such a large window that I understand it would be difficult to source and prohibitively expensive. If this is not an option for us then I wondered if there was any sort of manual or electric ventilator which could be inserted/incorporated into the window. We just want something that looks smart. The window and French doors are aluminium in anthracite. Hope that clarifies as is probably obvious I don’t understand the technicalities 🙄. Really appreciating all your responses though 😊

Heyyyyy so, I’m not sure whether anyone will see this but just wanted to say thanks for all your thoughts and advice. I ordered the windows in Feb and they’ve been done today- thought I’d share the results! I went for anthracite flush casement with a Georgian bar- absolutely love them! We also redid the tarmac drive and added in a planted bit at the front with olive, lavender, bay and box, painted the slate grey render white, painted the UPVC door with Frenchic paint in Cool Beans, new lantern etc. Interested to hear any other suggestions if people have them. I think it’s made a real difference to the style of the house, and we did a lot of it ourselves reasonably easily.

If you have a car and are happy to do a short trip abroad ... just drive to Germany for a weekend break and buy them there. What's called "tilt&turn" in the UK is the normal/common window type there, every mum&pop shop will have some, figuratively speaking. While most cheap ones (that is, ~100EUR/sqm price range) are UPVC, you can get timber from about ~200EUR/sqm area, https://www.hornbach.de/shop/suche/sortiment/Holzfenster (Hornbach is like B&Q), for example. You'd need to pre-call them about stock, For a single window, it's probably worth calling around in the UK and asking whether anyone is willing to part with showroom / old exhibition display pieces. To order from catalogue / custom-make could become prohibitively expensive I suspect.

I'm having the same issue with my tilt and turn Windows. If you figured out a solution please let me know. I'm thinking of having Roman blinds made that will be mounted at ceiling height so they should clear the windows when I need to open them. Just not sure it's the best solution. Keep me posted! Thanks

tilt and turn windows cannot be restricted in the manner or angle that they open without some sort of 'add-on' restrictor as mentioned. The hinges are made to be fully openable and cannot be altered in that regard.
