New Grey/White kitchen

Hi this is my first post - hope you can help.

We are just about to move into a new build which they have already put grey gloss cupboards and white sparkle work tops into the kitchen diner.

I'm now stuck on which flooring and dining furniture would go well.

Not keen on wood flooring and would personally LOVE a high gloss calacatta style floor but I'm concerned whether it would work?... And then what table!

What are your thoughts?

I've got grey kitchen, white workrooms and super gloss white floor,, it looks great, for 5 minutes. I've always has white floors, usually Matt and they have been great, can get away with a spot mop if something spills but with the high gloss, it's dirty 5 minutes after I cleaned it. Also, few weeks back I came in from the garden and my shoes must have been wet and I slid, took the skin off the whole length of my shin, I've been left with a huge scar which will never go away. Keep thinking it could have been one of the kids.

Anyway, just a few things to consider, I will be taking mine up within a year of putting it down. Although I would have taken up even without what's happened to my leg as its no use the floors looking dirty all the time,

Hi lj90,

It looks great so far which is exciting.

Your idea on flooring is perfect and what I would have recommended anyway. It will help lighten the space from the darker units. I have added a few images to show you how it would look.

As for the dining table, it's tough without seeing the space so being aware of the rooms light levels, wall colours, and over all style of the space... But I would go white or glass to keep the contemporary look and maybe try mixing chairs - again added some images you may find helpful.

Hi. Quartz is very durable surface, and sustainable with care. Silestone Bianco River is a lovely White worktop with a Grey vein. This would work beautifully with a Grey & White kitchen. Great kitchen so far!!! I just wonder if a high gloss floor might be too much with high gloss units, and your kitchen is at risk of looking too precious? I would personally go for a matt floor to add a bit of different textures. Also, to add warmth to your new build, I would definitely choose a wooden dining table, preferably old! Let us see the end result! Good luck!

I too would go with a Matt flooring. Don't overdo the gloss factor.

Aim for a Matt finish floor tile.

Thanks so much for your help! The gloss factor perhaps won't be the most practical it seems then - thanks for the warning!

In terms of the table then I've got a few options from your suggestions let me know what you think!

Hi. I would also go for a Matt tile, have you considered concrete to add some texture? I prefer the first 2 tables.

Kerry I love that! Who built the corner unit for you? It's one of the settings I've been debating for space saving. How practical/comfortable is it?? I've had these pinned for ages...
Also included my layout, I was thinking of the corner unit opposite the patio doors if that makes sense.

Fifhouzz thanks for sharing - I do love that look but we have decided on tiles for some reason...

Minnie101 concrete?! No I haven't - do you have any pics? I'll google it now. I love the industrial look because it allows me to add a rustic table to my contemporary kitchen so I agree on the tables... For some unknown reason I keep being drawn to impractical sleek/glam looks though.....

No problem. Karndean Opus Mico is supposed to have the look of concrete I think.

What are the dimensions of the kitchen? If you want a glam look have you considered a patterned tiled floor at all? It's not cheap but Oka do this dining bench which also comes in a grey if you didn't want something built. I love banquette seating but must admit I struggle to find any online!

I don't have any photos due to iPhone issues, and not at home, but we used this company to make us a bespoke banquette for our kitchen after failing to find anything off the shelf. Very pleased with it, and surprisingly reasonable pricing.

The concrete looks great and I love the greens sofa's. I'm sure I seen concrete look tiles on www.porcelaintilewarehouse.co.uk.

You have much more space than I have, we had to build the seating because a table and chairs would have been squashed. My dad built it, it's just wood strapping bolted to the walls then covered in plywood, then we carried the flooring over it and used chrome trim for the edges. We put the floor down after we built it so if we have to change the floor we don't have to remove the seating. The covers got made from a friend who put 100mm of foam in in, on the back foam is MDF ( covered) to make it rigid. It's really comfy and we picked a slightly ribbed material as my kids sit here for dinner, the rib makes the fabric a bit tougher when it comes to wiping spills so it still looks the same as when it went in.

I'd be happy to lift the covers off and show you how it's constructed but it's just like caravan seating in the way built.
