Living room missing something
Comments (49)Tani I really love your cabinet it adds so much warmth to the room with the dark navy and I don't feel it clashes with your floor at all. I like your animal skin rug but perhaps a larger one in Tan and creamy white would help pull the woodwork, metal vase and floor together and give it nice balance. Not sure what colours you like but you could try some velvet or textured oranges with the navy as the tones are similar to the wood and then add some neutral beige or cream with it. Have you tried your mirror above your new cabinet it may help the balance with the TV one the opposite side. I feel a mantle peace will make a difference in white or antique white. Then add a canvas or painting that has all the tones you decide on in your room with some strong accent colours like the orange with the greens and yellows from your other rooms that will tie the two together. What ever you decide on I'm sure you will have fun. Take your time and good luck, most of all have some fun with it....See MoreBasement Man Room Required
Comments (4)Hi. I'm not sure if you're wanting to properly waterproof it or not? If so would just look at the interior waterproofing sealant options although would first check out where the damp is coming in. We had ours properly tanked last year to create a boy ( and girl!) room but you need drainage for that. If the room is literally head height I would spend as little as possible IF it won't add value to the house. My brothers old basement wasn't waterproofed and it was fine. Do be careful of the type of plaster used though and you may need to use ventilation grids. ( you may be better checking all this out on a building website). The ceiling won't be high enough for any type of lighting I suspect so would look at ŵall lights and using table/floor lights. You also want to minimise depth of flooring so as not to lose height. I think (?) if it's level you can put vinyl directly on concrete so maybe a wood effect? If you want laminate I think it will need a DPM and then underlay although you may be able to buy a combined one to save some millimetres! I wouldn't fight the dark so would use dark inky colours and perhaps give it a slight industriał/ gentlemens club ( clean type) vibe. Perhaps on one ŵall create your own wood panelling effect using beading. I would create one ŵall for storage and the tv. You may be lucky and find an ikea system to fit that will also house a small beer fridge at the bottom. If so, would paint the unit with chalk paint to take away the glossy look. You could also add some under shelf lighting. Maybe a small 2 seater sofa opposite the tv with a small chair in the corner in front of the storage unit (my patio had to come up to get my Chesterfield in the basement via a window as I didn't quite do my measurements properly ..) You can also add a slim trunk to use as a coffee table storage. You could look at adding a small drinks trolley or drinks cabinet against one of the spare ŵalls. I'd add a floor lamp and maybe a large mirror to increase the feeling of space. I'd also just bear in mind the size of the tv, once you're sat on a sofa you will be quite close...See MoreFuture Houzz: Where did you want to live when you were growing up?
Comments (20)I'd say we all want to live in that lovely house we passed whilst on the way to go brambling with a jam jar in our hand and high hopes of a good day. Maybe it was the gates, or the gravel driveway that appealed, and it even had stone pillers and Georgian windows . And I'd wait and stare, and wait and stare curious about who lived there and hoping they'd drive out allowing me a quick glimpse of another world. Them. Then I'd feel ashamed stood there in my jumble-sale-new clothes, bothered that perhaps someone might come out and ask me what was I doing. I learnt it was a very rich person home, a shipbuilder who owned a shipping fleet and I wanted to copy him, if he could do it- then so could I. So that man and that lovely house blighted my life for the best, and it still does. I love this house and stop outside it whenever I pass by. I'm heart broken, and I'm a big strong man and big strong men are not allowed to cry. That adopted house is my comfort blanket, my home, and I go to sleep and it becomes mine. This is my lounge, this my garden, this gate is mine, and please come in when you go brambling. Don't walk on by, share it with me, you can adopt upstairs or the fireplaces, or ceiling coving and florals, I won't mind....See MoreDesign dilemma #living room
Comments (15)Sukiharrison and Odd job Hadyman, Thank you very much for your comments :) We actually intended to have the sofa on the opposite wall and built in cabinets and shelves exactly like you've suggested but I absolutely loved this big L shape sofa so desided to have it as it is now. There is no problem to move one part of the sofa to the opposite wall and the other to the wall against the window, but for now this is more convenient lay out. The shelves have to wait for now but I imagine them in white. After hearing a few suggestions about the secondary light by the window I will probably listen to the pros and remove it In favour of a floor or table lamp. No curtains.. For now :) I have a big thing about dust and would like this house to be as easy to clean as possible and generally don't like curtails Over radiators. Thou I understand this will affect the appearance I'd like to keep it simple....See MoreKit O
