Do you gave wood burners with between 2-3 kw output where you can see tge flames from the frint and sides with a back flu

Hi Glenda,

There's not really any wood burning stoves that have a nominal heat output of 2-3kW that we can offer. The issue would be that for an output this low, the fire chamber would be tiny and not sufficient to accommodate a standard sized log. You may be better looking at gas stoves. They are available in a wide range of designs and usually have a lower output that is also more controllable allowing you to run continuously on a low setting.

Thanks Gary. That's what we were thinking. It may explain why the people who installed it only used it once a year! I'll have a look into the electric fan if not i may have the surround removed as the brick inside all looks fine from what I can see (not much room!) I was originally looking just to remove the burner and replace with a traditional grate but hadn't realised I would need to have the flue changed which may be a dearer option than I first thought. In terms of wood, I used kiln dried ash on the first couple of attempts as had read in several places that it was the "gold" of wood, although have since read an article by an expert that has suggested it's overrated so we're just using kiln dried hardwood from the garden centre atm but no idea what type of wood it is.

Hi, the only thing I would say is put the fire on and see how hot it gets. We have a gas inserted fire, a little bit like yours but it really belts out the heat. We had an oak mirror on the wall above it and it got so hot we were really concerned that it would burn! We didn't want a full mantel piece so we bought an oak "shelf" to absorb the heat, then put the mirror above that. Now I am not worried about the mirror. I still have to switch the fire off after a couple of hours as the wood "shelf" gets really hot, but I am not worried that anything of value will get damaged. If the shelf gets a bit black (it hasn't so far) I won't mind. I definitely would not put a TV over a fire for all the above reasons. Hope that helps a little.

Overall, I'd say our system works well and the stove + back boiler is great if there's a winter power cut. Means we still have some heat and hot water! Solar thermal is very useful in the summer when we don't want the fire / boiler on. But it does mean adjusting when you have your shower to when there's hot water - which is in the evening. But, your workmen may kick up a fuss as the combination's not the easiest to get your head round. Bioethanol wood burning stoves

We're thinking about getting a bioethanol wood burning stove in our living room. We've previously had the real thing and loved it as a focal point. Our home is a new build and very warm, so we don't need massive heat output. Also we don't have a gas pipe nearby. Does anyone have experience of bioethanol wood burning stoves? Pros and cons?
