I love Josette wallpaper. I used it on my chimney breast in my old bedroom. Loved it so much, another shade went up under the dado up the stairs and in the hall in my house too. We then moved and we have it now in our new bedroom in yet another shade! I put the paper up in my old bedroom. It’s tricky but not the worst paper I have ever hung.

Minnie is absolutely right about the wallpaper - whether there is a physical demarkation or not, you will still be creating a false line for the eye that's hardly going to be restful in your living room, and will just look odd. My advice would be to dump the idea of a feature wall and put your desire for a floral pattern into a lovely rug. I assume you are keeping the carpet? It looks light beige in the photos and you need to keep this colour in mind, as well as the black of the sofas, when choosing the rest of the scheme. Maybe have a look at rugs with big, swirly floral patterns in browns and coppers or golds as well as beige and black, then pick colours from that (copper or gold would be lovely) for your cushions and curtains. The walls (and up the staircase wall) I would paint in a very, very light shade of whatever beige or taupe dominates in the carpet (impossible to tell from a photograph so grab some paint charts). In some ways it’s good to have such a large TV. Let’s face it you are sitting a very long way from it in your lovely big room! You are wondering how to make the door end of the room look used. I think we are talking trade offs with the design here, in terms of cost and layout. If you can spend a bit of money it might be worth investigating how to design a new fireplace that incorporates the TV. Sounds horrendous I know, but because you have a large tv it might work, though you’d have to be VERY careful about balance in the positioning and get specialist advice on insulating the tv from the heat from the fire. You also need to consider how much time you spend watching tv and if the upwards angle of view might give you a stiff neck from where you place the sofa...BUT... this would enable you to bring Carolina’s room layout back towards the door, making the room look more occupied, you could then also use celery girls idea to put a sort of separate more intimate seating area in the bay window - two statement chairs and a little table, maybe flanked by a pair of enormous table lamps in front of the curtains to fill the corners and highlight the curtains at night.

I'm not sure about either to be honest, sorry. I appreciate the ideas though! I think where i'm struggling is i quite like something gold/marble, i'm just aware I have gone for quite statement pieces so I want everything to effortlessly flow together and look well-styled but not gaudy/mish-mashed. I suppose I know how i want it to feel i.e. luxurious, elegant and feminine rather than how i want it to look, if that makes sense?
