Well, the wall is out now. To give you an idea of what we're working with, this is the space we have left. View through to the dining room. View through to the lounge. This is the lounge door (on the right) that we're thinking of blocking up. You'll see from our floor plan that this will mean the entrance hallway leads to the kitchen and dining room, and entrance for the lounge will be through the dining room. At the moment we have a sofa in front of the door to live with walking through the wall for the lounge to see if we can do that. If so, we'll block it off and make the lounge more secluded from the house, but more open from the dining areas. So, onto what to do with that space. We really like these doors: http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Newland-Internal-French-Doors-Pine-Glazed-8-Lite-1981x1170mm/p/208500 but I'm worried about the fact that they're unfinished. So when painting white, I wont be able to get the wood behind the glass very well, which means when looking through the glass, you'll see the back of the wood (if that makes sense?) I'm very fussy like this. So, thoughts? How do you style your dining room- dining set or mix & match chairs?

I have something closer to the Wycome set - although fabric (washable) padded seats and a bench. However I love the luxurious look of the Maddox chairs. I think probably the Wycombe is more functional on a regular use kind of table, however the Maddox would be great for dinner parties where you might spend an entire evening at the dining table!

In the picture above I personally would have a different sofa or chairs. The wood matches and goes together nicely with it being open plan but I think the chairs and sofa matching (styles not colours) is slightly too much.

What's the best shape for a dining table in a small room?

Depends on the size of the room, it’s shape, and size of the table. I changed my kitchen table from a square with high backed chairs to a slim rectangular table with chairs with a low back, and it looks much better and gives us more space around it.
