Shepherd's Hut Interior Inspiration Please!
Hi all! My parents have recently begun a landscaping project in their garden and they decided to incorporate a Shepherd's Hut for something a bit different.
We're now partway through the build and they have decided on the exterior colours (a holly green shade for the walls and a pale sage for the doors and window frames) but they're looking for inspiration for the interior colours and furnishings. It will have vertical wood panelling up to dado rail height and then painted MDF above. They haven't chosen anything yet but they'd like it not to be too traditional inside, maybe Scandi-modern, and all free-standing furniture. It's a space for chilling out but could be combined with a home office if we can make it all fit.
It's quite a small room (just bigger than 2 x 3m) so everything needs to be chosen carefully to make the most of the space! Please help!

5 years agoHave either a door with a window for light, or better still just two double doors looking out on to the garden and no 'shed door' at the other end. Having both uses up too much wall space, which you need inside.
If you want to have it as a potential home office, then heating has to be included, there are some great little stoves about.
Flip down Wall / Desk beds are perfect for this situation as it combines in to one area a bed, a desk and a seating area for working, leaving you more space for the sink, little hob, kettle etc,

Comments (118)I inherited a conservatory when I moved to my current house. I was thrilled with an extra room off the kitchen. I have a south facing garden and soon found out that the conservatory's temperature rose to 40 + degrees in the summer, and faded everything, and we had to move a tv and Wii box as they were being fried. I would paint the walls white and the ceiling a very light blue. A small sofa opposite the double doors, a couple of chairs that don't take up much visual space, a shelf that runs from wall to wall under the end window and can be the desk. 5 years agoHouzz doesn't let me copy and paste now, so again I took a screenshot for you. I was thinking that it could be practical to go for an outdoor sofa. Since it could be damp? Something like this one maybe (John Lewis) ? Doesn't look too outdoorsy.

5 years agoJust had another idea, they could wallpaper above the panelling. Maybe just the short wall with the window. Maybe all around, or just the long wall. For example, but they could also do a graphic black and white pattern or whatever they want.

5 years agoHi. I would also paint it white. Perhaps something like farrow and ball James White which has a green undertone. I'd put a sofa under the short wall with the window. Agree with Carolins that an outdoor sofa may be best. This one is also from John Lewis and is a scandi style. I'd add a sheepskin throw over one arm and then add a couple of nature inspired scandi cushions with a bit of colour. You should also have room to add an arc lamp behind the sofa. Also agree re the stove which I'd put in the top left corner. You can get electric stoves with a faux flue which will make it look more authentic. I'd look for a slim glass or acrylic coffee table which visually won't take up much space maybe with a shelf underneath for some books. Add some faux stems on the table, I like the eucalyptus from Cox and Cox. I'd also add a chair in the spare corner but yet to find one suitable! Add a mirror or mirrors on the long wall to add more light and space, maybe some of the round ones on chains or leather straps. If you want a rug then I'd go for an outdoor one which may be more practical. Good luck, sounds like a fun project!
