We enjoy eating in our dining room but do
eat in the living room from time to time because that's where the TiVo box is!

We never do as after moving house we went from leather sofas to velvet although we have suffered a red wine mishap which is potentially a lot worse!

We very very rarely eat in the living room... 3 children (4 if you include the man of the house), food and light colours don't mix well...

We used to but after moving house we started eating in d kitchen since there's T.V.there n a set of chair.

We have a dining kitchen and much prefer to eat at the table. Always have. A few times a year we eat in the living room - usually as there's something on tv that we want to watch. Obviously there's no tv in our kitchen diner... that's a big no- no!

Have a large kitchen/diner but live solo so I love to take my dining tray into the living room and watch TV while I have my supper!! It's bliss!!

It's complicated! My husband never eats at the table unless we have guests round to eat. He comes home at different times so he always eats in the lounge. If my Son wants to eat at the table (depends on how sociable he's feeling) I eat at the table. If I'm alone, I eat in front of the tele in the lounge.

We have a lovely new table in our kitchen, but we still eat on a tray on our laps in the living room watching tv! I know, I know!

The kitchen just isn't big enough to eat in and the Conservatory (where the dining table is), is so full of stuff, it's just not going to happen!

I live in a compact house which doesn't have a dining room so everything happens in the living room. but when I eventually get a house with a dining room, I will definitely be putting it to good use. I have visions of tablecloths, napkins and centre pieces! :)

When I have a takeaway.

I would love a dining room, or even a kitchen large enough to accommodate a small table and two chairs. Unfortunately my bungalow is so tiny I have no choice but to take my knees into the living room, rest my plate on my knees and then eat. I'm used to it but I don't like it.

Never! I understand if you have no choice due to space restrictions but otherwise no. It's bad for your digestion and vulgar into the bargain! What happened to a civilised meal around the table with your nearest and dearest? Oh wait! what's on tv is much more important.

My place is tiny but lovely. The kitchen area and living room area are open plan, so I do always eat in the living room space. If the kitchen did have space for a table / breakfast bar, I would probably eat there much of the time. I like to make my mealtimes an 'occasion'.

Not everyone is fortunate to have a big sprawling house with lots of spacious rooms. My house is a 3 bed semi and tiny. The bathroom has just enough room for a sink and bath. (See rate toilet btw). The youngest sons room has a high sleeper just so we can fit desk and storage beneath it, the kitchen can handle 2 people moving around but no way could we find space for a breakfast table or dining table. And the dining room we use for special occasions as we have to keep pulling out the table and chairs and its cramped. So yes. Living room for us "vulgar" people but we also find it relaxing and a good time to talk to each other, even with the to on.

Not reading the original comment people! I did mention space restrictions! Let's be honest, who would choose to precariously balance a tray of hot food on their knee if they didn't have to? To most people the TV is more important otherwise it would be off whilst eating, wherever it is.

Titiana Bracken my house is a modest 3 bed detached that needs complete renovation and extension but we have MADE room for a table. You have the luxury of a dining room (I wish!) but are choosing not to use it!

We do use it. It's also a study. But the room is cramped no matter how we move things around. However I do not find eating in the lounge vulgar. It's also about comfort and relaxing and talking. Tv or no to it is personal preference but I'm sure a lot of people feel insulted at being told its vulgar

chalkandbell - I DID read your comment, and I DID note that you had mentioned space restrictions - but to say that people who eat anywhere other than from a table, or heaven forbid in a living room are vulgar is....well, a crass and vulgar comment.

I live on a pleasant street of small bungalows, all of which are of the same design, so obviously we're all Vulgar, but I'll keep it to myself and not offend my neighbours by telling them. You might be surprised - horrified, even - to know that it doesn't keep me awake at night.

I am happy for you that you can make room for your dining needs so that you are not vulgar - but don't be so hoity-toity. You could, perhaps, use different words to express your opinions which would not be so offensive.......who knows, one day you might, through circumstances beyond your control, become just as vulgar as the rest of us.

I prefer to sit st a table and eat but only because it's social and also what I am used to, however on occasions we sit in the living room and eat it really depends on what's for dinner!

Since my husband accident ,,now unable to walk,,we sit on the sofa at the TVs box ,and eat our meal there ,,I admit I miss the table ,but enjoy time sat with him,,

It seems I am only half 'vulgar' ...we eat in the lounge, we also eat at table... small fold up tables that were £7.99 from Argos.... we have no room in our lounge/diner (note lounge/diner, yes some people HAVE to eat in the lounge) for a large table and chairs, unless we want to move the sofa and chairs out... the kitchen isnt big enough for a table either so it's lounge or nowhere... I wont eat off my knee but that's simply because I have back problems that mean I cant bend forward enough to do so.

Sadly eating in the living room has become a necessary evil.as I no longer have a kitchen big enough for a table and chairs, but by using a low big coffee table on a bigger rug we can sit on the floor at the table , and it's lots of fun for my granddaughters too .

Never eat in the living room!

I've never learned the knack of eating on my knees. It gives me such a stomached ache......and I can't read at the same time!

I eat every meal at a table, not in front of the TV. Right now the only table happens to be in the dining room but it's been in my lounge in past homes (and I've lived alone in London so some lounges have been minuscule and been the ONLY room). I don't usually eat alone but if I am I may occasionally flip through a magazine, but I have always eaten at some form of a table and there is never a TV on. I wouldn't use the term vulgar but balancing a plate while watching tv, especially while eating with others isn't how I'd like to enjoy my meals, my family/friends or my TV. Simple pleasures.

Once a week tops. Men are messy eaters, bless them. Can't have him messing up my lovely velvet sofa or crumbing on my oak floor now can I?
