Comments (11)HiHelen, What an amazing transformation - it’s great to see the design in the flesh and how it has turned out. I love how well your new pieces of furniture work with the upcycled pieces - they look completely unrecognisable! It goes to show how effective just changing your existing furnishings with a lick of paint, and adding in new quirky door handles can be. The colours look great, with the rich grey and pops of mustard, it makes the space look really cosy and relaxing! You have definitely got the sanctuary you wanted to achieve. Thanks for sharing the photos and I’m really pleased you are happy with the finished result - it was a pleasure to work on for you. Q
Comments (5)Hi Joey, I love what you have done with the space, the wallpaper looks great! It really does brighten up the room. The fireplace is a really unique and lovely feature in your living room so I would reluctant to paint the brick work. Instead I have some alternative ideas of what you could do with the fireplace. My first suggestion is to paint the hearth in a warmer colour to be in harmony with the warm natural tones within the brickwork. Timeless or Jurassic Stone would be a fantastic colour for this. Secondly, you could carry these paint colours through to behind the log burner so that the colour flows from the tiles to the walls. If you decide to do this then I would suggest painting behind and either side of the log burner so you are getting more of an impact into the space. Finally another great idea would be to tile behind the log burner and continue this to below the log burner. Just be sure that any tiles you select are suitable for high temperature environments if you ever decide to use the log burner. I hope this helps! Why not enter our competition where 10 lucky Houzzer will win a free Dulux Amazing Space design consultation worth £75 and up to £90 of our new Amazing Space Paint for your project. Q
Comments (13)HelloLinda That mirror is amazing. I can definitely see why you bought it on impulse. I think I would have done the same. Have you thought about using a dark colour on the wall, such as Brenton Blue? Brenton Blue is a lovely deep and intense colour that will create more of an atmosphere and statement in the room and make that mirror a focal piece on the wall. As you can see in the image above, this stool really pops against the dark background. You also mentioned that your style is 'modern and simplistic with clean lines' so I thought I would show this image below for some inspiration: In this image, we have painted all of the walls white and have painted very simple lines around the artwork to make them stand out and pop within the space. This is an idea I thought that you might like to try. The use of bright colours really captures your attention and draws the eye to these pieces. An alternative way to achieve this look would be to change the colour of the mirror frame by painting it. For something a little more wow, yet still modern and simplistic, why not try a paint effect like in our image below: This paint effect and colour would really make your black lamp and grey mirror pop. Here we have used Easter Morn 4. This is a lovely shade of yellow that will add a touch of warmth to your hallway. This paint effect is really quick and easy to achieve. Check out our Dulux YouTube page for some great tutorial videos on paint effects. You can also download for free our Dulux Visualiser App which allows you to pick a colour and by using augmented reality, you can see that the colour would look like on your wall in your actual space. here is the link to download the app for free: https://www.dulux.co.uk/en/articles/the-dulux-visualizer-app Good luck with the decorating - we would love to hear about how you get on and what you decide to do. to wall colour, take a look at Dulux Dusted Moss 2 - it’s one of my current
favourites! This colour will work perfectly to reflect light, but also creates
a homely and cosy space - perfect to relax in and enjoy. If you fancy creating

It’s exciting that you’re about to move
house; I’m sure that you’ll enjoy decorating your new home, making it feel your
own.To give a quick and fresh look to your home,
why not start by decorating each room in an off-white, or very pale grey? This
will create a light and airy blank canvas for you to work with, leaving you
with more time to consider palettes for each space. In the meantime, dress your
property and give each room personality and character with soft furnishings and
decorative accessories.Good luck with the decorating! If you need

hallway will look gorgeous, as this will give a lovely warm and welcoming look
to the entrance of your home. It’s difficult to recommend which specific wall
to wallpaper without seeing a photograph, but I’d generally recommend either
wallpapering the wall opposite the staircase, or the end wall if you’re hallway
is quite long. Continuing the feature wallpaper into your kitchen will work
perfectly too, especially if you plan to paint the remaining walls white.Good luck making your wallpaper selection. Send a picture when you’re

It sounds like you have an exciting project coming up, not only for you, but for your girls too! I would suggest green as a great alternative to pink, bringing energy and excitement to the space. Stick to pale, relaxing tones for the main walls as the base for your scheme, then add a few bright splashes of colour in the bedding and accessories for a fun, playful look.

7 years agoHi Ryan,
Freshening up your bathroom will create a light and airy space - perfect for relaxing and soaking away the stress of the day.
My suggestion would be to go for colours inspired by nature as they create a feeling of serenity and peace; ideal for your bathroom. There are lots of soft muted greens and blues around at the moment to choose from. Teal is a beautiful rich tone, adding warmth and splash of colour! You can also bring the outside in with plants, combined with soft gentle lighting to help turn your bathroom into a totally Zen zone.
I love the below combination for a light and airy look:

Although you both have very different tastes to one another, there is such a wide variety of colours available today, so I am sure we could help you find a colour scheme you could both fall in love with!
I would suggest a neutral with a subtle hint of colour for the walls, and bring in a splash of colour to complete the look with furniture and furnishings. Why not download our Dulux visualizer app? It is free to download and lets you pick a colour, and with augmented reality technology, allows you to see the colours live in your living space. Maybe persuading you to paint a bolder colour onto your walls!

7 years agoIt sounds like you
have an exciting time ahead of you - your renovation sounds amazing! Choosing
colour palettes can be difficult, and like you mentioned, can make a big
difference to how the space feels. The Dulux Visualizer App is great for
experimenting with different colours before even buying tester pots, as it
allows you to see a colour live in your room so you can how it would look, however
it is most effectively done in situ.
If you are looking
for a versatile base colour that you can paint everywhere in your home, you
could consider Dulux Colour Mixing Potters Clay 3 or Colour Mixing Dusted Moss
3. Both these colours have more depth than white, and will be easily matched
with additional colours once you have moved in and got a feel for the space.
If you would like
some more specific advice, including 3D renders of your space to help you
visualise what your rooms could look like, why not take advantage of the Dulux
Amazing Space offer on at the moment and bag yourself £10.00 off a
consultation? We would design your room for you and come up with some new ideas
working with the space and what you like, dislike, already have, want to change
etc. Just enter LCMAW16 at the checkout to get a consultation for £65 instead
of £75.Good luck with the

It could
be a really nice idea to add a feature wall to your scheme. They can really lift
the mood and feel of a room easily, and for relatively
little effort and expense. Choose a colour that you love, and reflect it around
your room within your soft furnishings for a cohesive look. The Dulux
Visualizer App is a great tool to try, as it will allow you to experiment with
lots of different colours within your space, without you even needing to buy a
tester pot! It’ll show the colour live in your room on your phone so you can
see how your room would look.Good luck with the

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoHi John Sewell,
Congratulations on moving into your new house, it sounds like you have an exciting project ahead of you of you both - and what a great blank canvas to start with!
An easy and simple way to add interest to a white backdrop, is to incorporate textured accessories; anything from soft wool throws to lace bed linen to instantly transform a room into something a little more sophisticated.
Here are some of my favourite comfy and texured pieces:
http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-cable-knit-faux-fur-cushion

http://www.dunelm.com/product/sheepskin-rug
Colour is definitely a way to add a wow factor, converting your house into a home. Dulux Polished Pebble is a warming grey that is so versatile, and its subtle shade makes the perfect backdrop for any room.
https://www.dulux.co.uk/en/colour-details/polished-pebble
Polished Pebble pairs beautifully with other bolder hues, from zesty yellows to calming pastel colours. If you’re feeling brave, paint your chosen walls in a statement colour such as Dulux Blue Reflection, enhancing the overall interior look.

Send a picture when you’re done, I’d love to see how you got on!

Dulux Amazing Space
7 years agoYou have a really lovely big space,
perfect for a family. There are lots of clever tricks
you could try when ‘zoning’ a large space effectively. The first thing to
consider would be the flooring. To create a separate space, think about using a
large rug on the floor to segment an area for a specific purpose. Try adding a
textured rug to your living end, and turn this space into a cosy haven to relax
in.The second thing is wall colour. Consider
having a neutral base palette that you can add splashes of colour to throughout
your accessories, or possibly even feature walls. Try and choose a small palette of colours,
and stick to it throughout your space - accentuating different colours in
different rooms. Dulux’s Grey Steel 3 would be a perfect calming base to use
throughout your home, and looks great in both period and modern properties. Introduce touches of Dulux’s Sundrenched
Saffron 3 to your living room, complimenting colours in your kitchen and adding
some warmth to your scheme. In your kitchen, try a muted teal such
as Celestial Cloud 3 to a section of your wall, or through your accessories,
complementing the Sundrenched Saffron from your living room.
The third and final thing is
storage. For open plan living to work successfully, it is most probably the
most important decision to make. Whether it is boxes, baskets or shelving, a
streamline clutter free look is key. Storage shelving is perfect for
open plan living as not only can it keep your space clean lined and tidy, they
can also be stylish ways to divide room into sections and offer some screening.
My favourite is this one from Graham & Green:
Having a tight colour palette
throughout your home will unify the space, whilst the rug and storage will
bring the sophisticated grown up feel you are looking for.Good luck Rebecca, you have got a
great space to work with.

7 years agoHi peony grace,
Thank you for taking the time to share photos of your space. You have lovely open living and kitchen space, so adding a pop of colour will bring a new lease of life to this social and often busy area.
Your warm grey flooring is the perfect backdrop for a splash of colour on the walls, creating unity in the room. Choose a warm neutral wall colour, such as Dulux Nutmeg White. Nutmeg White combines well with vibrant colours like lime green, raspberry and cobalt blue, bringing a statement look to your kitchen.

7 years agoWe can
totally understand your dilemma - ‘Magnolia’ is certainly not for everyone! Different
colours can evoke different moods and feelings, so don’t limit yourself to one
colour throughout your whole house. Dark moody tones work brilliantly in
bedrooms, and have been proven to help induce better sleep. Our favourite at
the moment is Dulux’s Denim Drift.
Bright,
fresh colours are great for kitchens, and for creating a lively happy
atmosphere. I love Dulux Coral Canyon which is really uplifting.
Finally,
dusted blues and greens have amazing calming qualities, and are fantastic for
any rooms you want to relax and unwind in. Dulux Dusted Moss is a beautiful,
versatile colour that will suit most styles of property, either traditional or
modern.
If you
are cautious about using colour, why not introduce it slowly through your
accessories, or as a feature wall, as these can be easily updated and replaced.
Good luck
and we would love to see the results.Hannah
