Comments (3)Hey Tani, such a shame that staircase is in the way as you could have a lovely door with side lights on either side, i do like symmetry ! Of the examples you included above i think the set up with the darker door looks better, but i don't think the venetian blinds on the side light are quire right. A few other possibilities - make it a double door ? Comments (21)Hi Heather, We got quotes from both Rockdoor and Solidor for the door itself and side panels. We managed to get ourselves some trade discount through our builder but the rough cost of side panel and door from Rockdoor came to 2k and for Solidor at 1.5k. I have just purchased the house which is about 15 years old and the previous owners have painted the composite front door with what looks like satin wood paint. They haven't done a great job, it's cracked in places, large brush marks, and runs. Can it be sanded down and repainted? Comments (0)I'm looking to replace the timber front door of my Victorian semi and am wondering if it's worth considering a composite door. Initially I only considered timber due to wanting to respect the style of the property, but have been advised that it composite doors nowadays do look in keeping with period properties. I'm aware that they are tougher, more secure and require less maintenance- but want to be sure it will look right. I'm going to be restoring all of the wooden sash windows and am concerned that having a modern looking door is going to look odd. I'd be interested to hear from anyone with a victorian house who has a composite door. Thanks....See Morerheanu
