What colour for front door?
Comments (4)Hi there, Research suggests that the colour of your front door can tell a lot about a person. However blue seems to be the most positive. Depending on the hue, it could give the impression of intelligence (navy), prosperity (royal) or sincerity (powder). Comments (26)Dear Gail as far as I can tell from your photo the existing rosewood looks very attractive, indeed it is probably the most attractive rosewood house I have ever seen. In my opinion It is planting that will make the biggest difference, even, as people have already proposed, just adding some planters - however take your time in choosing the right planters/shrubs and plants. Lechuza (www.lechuza.co.uk/) do self watering/sub irrigation planters - nothing worse to bring down the even most attractive house than dried out uncared for planters/garden. Mona Pantsava (available amongst others at www.waterirrigation.co.uk - purchased my water timers here and received great customer care with one faulty timer after a year from purchase) do a range of sub irrigation tanks for standard planters and pots that are not so expensive as lechuza and open up wider choice but you will have to put extra effort in to make your own up (www.albopepper.com explains concept of sub irrigation very well) and give thought to weather resistance. Or look at sprinkler/drip feed watering system. I definitely think improving the planting will make the biggest difference. I hope it all comes together for you....See Morewhat colour front door?
Comments (7)CD and Sonia - thanks for your lovely comments. I’m definitely not bold! The other houses in the estate are white rendered properties and no one else has the porch so not able to compare to see what things would look like but I’ll probably be demonised if i did anything strong! . The sage options look worth exploring. Didn’t even think of green hues - was so fixated on thinking of variations of the grey/ brown theme. I did think pale blue as you see a lot of designs that put brown and blue / turquoise together but my husband is totally against that option . I’ve been pouring over the RAL colour chart as I have to link it to those . RAL 7038 looks similar. The front of the house is south facing so in the day it is a bit lighter . Other ideas on that theme RAL 7030, RAL 7032 , RAL 7035, RAL 7038, RAL7044. My husband thinks RAL 7036, RAL 7004 which are definitely greyer. Could get very expensive with tester pots!...See MoreWhat colour / style front door?
Comments (16)Thanks for all the advice offered I have been walking around and looking at front doors and taking onboard all the advice you have all given. Helen P - I am now reconsidering a Painswick coloured front door as all the houses that do not have white windows seem to look better if the front door colour matches the windows (in my opinion, from what I have seen). I will look at a modern Painswick door too. Sarah L - I like the horizontal lines on the front door, I'll probably use that as this will then match with our internal doors. HU-580662978 - I have looked at the accessories (no door knocker for us). colourhappy - you're right; the door to one side and a larger piece of glass instead of two sidelights looks more modern....See MoreLorraine Doyle
