What brand of paint for kitchen cabinets?

Hello, I need some advice about which brand of paint to use for painting kitchen cabinets? I've read if lots of people using F&B eggshell but again that some people don't like it? Or there's Little Greene? Dulux Diamond Eggshell.... Has anyone used Sanderson Eggshell? There seems so many mixed reviews I don't know what to use! Help...! Thanks

Hello. I tend to recommend Farrow & Ball to all my clients. The only time there has been an issue was when a client decided to colour match the paint. Good luck! Best, CPI

It may depend on the existing cupboard material. If the colours are suitable Ronseal cupboard one coat may be worth a look

Hi allyallyally3 we supply handmade painted kitchens, we offer Raw to be handpainted on site or pre painted (sprayed in our factory) both can be repainted in the future if you want a colour change. The general advice we give customers is if they have pets o young children (both tend to cause damage to a kitchen!) we would recommend getting a hand painted finish, this means you can then just get your pot out dab it on and it should be almost invisible. Whereas a spray painted kitchen will have a very clean finish, but touching up if scratched can be a bigger problem to get a nice finish hope this helps regards CKD Link to advice on our website

Aggy I have both in my home, sprayed in the utility room and hand painted in the kitchen. The sprayed has a very slight 'plastic' look to it on close inspection. It is however very hard wearing. The hand painted finish in the kitchen looks more sophisticated but doesn't take the knocks quite so easily. Also hand painted is more £££'s!

I personally would paint both sides of the door. Otherwise it will look odd when you open them. Zinnser 123 is an excellent primer. Nick Butler Newleaf Furniture

Hi there! MDF is very porous so if you apply paint straight to it it dries incredibly quickly and creates a bubbled/uneven finish. I believe you need to prime it to seal it first, then sand, and then apply paint. As for types of paint, once primed and sanded I think any will do. Best of luck with the painting :)

I agree! it totally depends on existing door finish and farrow and ball sometimes isnt tough enough and you might have problems making it adhere

I personally would not use any brand of eggshell paint on a kitchen cupboard, it is not robust enough for the job. Gloss or satinwood is what you should be looking at. I've always used Dulux, but have recently defected to Valspar ( crown ) at B&Q due to issues with colour mixing, colour matching. We have just painted our utility room using this including plastic pipework. It's holding up great. ( Valspar for wood and metal is what i've used ) - Just get a good all round primer which will be dictated to by the type of cupboard door you have - The Armstead range of primers at Dulux trade centres is great paint.

Thanks for your responses, the doors are solid pine and I will be sanding and priming them.
