Your best advice to keep slugs at bay
Comments (48)raine1200, the only difference between a slug and a snail is the shell on the snail from what I've been taught. As far as using oak leaves as a mulch, be very careful as it takes 7 years for them to decay. We used to put the oak leaves in our garden as we have 2 neighbors with 35' oak trees who don't feel compelled to pick up the leaves in the fall so they end up in front of our house. My husband is almost fanatical to make sure every leaf is picked up so he's taken it upon himself to pick them up out of the street, and put them in our garden until he started researching why they didn't break down over the long wet winters here in the Pacifc Northwest, and found it takes 7 years for them to decay. Now they go in the green bin....See MoreHelp with Trees/Shrubs to small garden.
Comments (11)I wouldn't have put a lawn in. You can see how it goes, but they require a lot of mowing and it sounds like you don't get a lot of sun so it may well end up very mossy and wet most of the time. See how it goes but maybe you need the deck to be sited on the left, so it is in the sun in the middle of the day/evening if possible, so not near the house if it faces east. Evergreen climbers are essential for small gardens with fences. Trachelospermum jasminoides, has lovely scented flowers in the summer and Hydrangea seemannii and Pileostegia Viburnoides are good in shade. I would put in a lot of planting on the shady side of the garden, a good evergreen grass for clay is Carex pendula. I would also plant an Amelanchier or Acer at the far end to screen the neighbours windows and autumn colour. You could look up evergreen ground covers for shade. Good luck!...See MoreHow to keep a kitchen sink area tidy...
Comments (31)In our new kitchen we got a double drawer dishwasher, so we always have space for dirty stuff. Our tea towels and hand towels live on a pull out rail in the left hand cupboard (where the rinse aid and washing tablets also live) and washing up brush, washing up liquid and sponges & cloths, live under the sink in a drawer in the right hand cupboard. Everything gets done in the dishwasher, other than roasting pans, saucepans etc, which get hand washed, drained for a while and then finished off with the tea towel and put way more or less right away. Other than that, there's only our expensive wine glasses, that get washed and dried immediately. All of which tends to keep the area quite clear all the time. I would say that the greatest difference has been made by the double dishwasher, we always used to have dirty stuff hanging around waiting, either for the dishwashing to finish, or waiting for it to be emptied of clean stuff....See MoreCrimbo tree/decoration pics 2019
Comments (116)Nice to hear Monica. I love the house when the decs are up (cover a multitude of sins!). I put them up pretty late compared to most these days but hate them coming down to reveal unfinished jobs and less than perfect paintwork!!...See Moreloulamreiss
