Hallway, Landing & Stairs - Help, please
Comments (9)Thank you for your ideas, minnie - I wish we could keep the wallpaper, as it is (or was) nice. Unfortunately, it is very 'tired' and looks dirty. We are definitely getting a carpet for the stairs, and unfortunately, we can't afford to put new wallpaper up, at the moment - we have enough magnolia paint (donated to us) to do the whole area, but I wanted to add a touch of soft colour to it. The carpet we are getting is very similar to the photo I have attached. As you have suggested, I have also attached a couple of photos of the hallway without the paint. Thank you again :D...See MoreHallway advice please.
Comments (0)Hi everyone, Just wondered if you could offer some advice? My partner and I are in the process of renovating our house. It has been a massive project and we have done everything ourselves, including building an extension, to give us a large open plan kitchen, dining, living space; which is (finally!) on the verge of being completed. Now that we are getting close to finishing the inside, it means I have finally been able to think about pretty things, such as paint and accessories. Which brings me onto my topic point - I am in the process of painting the hallway in F&B Elephants Breath. As you can see on the photographs, the radiator wall is the wall I have put the first coat on today, and I will be finishing the stairs and landing over coming days. We intend to replace the boards underneath the hand rail with spindles... So what F&B colour should I paint them? I will be painting the doors and also having a radiator cover... Should I paint all woodwork in the same colour as the bannister? Just to give you an idea, we have wood floor for hallway leading into the extension. Secondly, I have attached a photograph of the idea I had for carpet on the stairs and landing which I adore... However, this house is a project that we intend to sell within a year or so of finishing so in order to capitalise on profit, the carpet is over budget (£70 odd per sq yard) I need to half that at least (appreciate won't be 80:20 like the attached picture)... Can anyone offer any suggestions please as to a carpet that will look good with colour scheme? Can't be too countrified as won't fit the age of house (unfortunately). Thank you for taking the time to read and look forward to getting some ideas! Emily....See MoreHelp choosing paint colour/s for hallway and landing space
Comments (14)Hi, I'm currently going through the same issue, Trying to find the right combo of paints to paint the hallway. I am looking to panel the part beneath the dado to prevent the ever so frustrating scuffing which occurs at sharp corners and am unsure on the colour combo. I was considering grey and white too but I'm scared that it may make the space feel too cold and dull especially as the only light will be through the door which won't be much. What colour combo's would you recommend to make the space feel luxurious and modern, yet not too clinical and cold?? I'd like the paint to be dulux preferably. what is the quality of Valspar paint like, I've seen it at DIY stores but don't know if it reaches standard of dulux? any reviews?? thanks...See MoreNeed advice updating my 1930's hall and landing
Comments (3)You have some great features there. I love the bullseye architrave and panelled doors. One of my favourite hall transformations on Houzz was this one: [From dodgy pink to elegant grey[(https://www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/from-dodgey-pink-to-elegant-greys-dsvw-vd~2942113) If I was lucky enough to have a hallway like yours, I'd be getting a skip for the dado rail and wallpaper (as already suggested). The dark brown carpet would also go in. I'd then be wanting to use white emulsion on the doors and walls. To add some interest, how about creating a feature using either a coloured chandelier or mirror? How about a stripe carpet going up the stairs?...See Morelisamarie1000
