Comments (15)Thanks for replies. I'm not an expert in any shape or form but I have decorated and furnished our georgian home which we bought recently so have outlined my thoughts. Symmetry is key to georgian design so would have matching sofas (classic style) either side of the fireplace with a coffee table in the middle on an oriental rug. A pair of wing chairs would also look good but appreciate you want to minimise! Sage green or stone may work well with the curtains or try a pale duck egg (it's difficult to see the exact tones of the curtains). Georgians drew on oriental design, Chinoiserie wallpaper is very in at the moment and Is typical of the period. They also used black lacquer, maybe consider white oriental lacquer furniture as a modern touch? I would put a picture rail in the lounge as it looks as if you have one in the dining room so would carry it through. The lounge would look lovely with a large chandelier. Maybe accessorise with Roman busts, large ginger jars etc. the parquet sounds lovely. Comments (1)I think tan leather would look good with the mango furniture. I'm not sure that mid century would complement your furniture, Chesterfields are fashionable and fine for modern homes so you could go down that route. Although I think something like this would look great: http://www.made.com/canape-3-seater-sofa-saddle-tan-premium-leather. Decor wise with tan leather cooler colours work best - blues, greens and greys. I love olive green with it - you could bring in as an accent wall if light is an issue and copper accessories would look great with the olive - Next has lots of lovely copper stuff in at the moment....See Moreliving room update - which sofa??

We have decided on the French connection zinc in grey/charcoal (3 seater) combination with the grey leather cuddler. I’m just so excited I could burst. We need to wait 6-8 weeks so gives me a little time to consider paint and layout. Though I have already sold our sofa so we are taking in in terms to sit in the Ikea armchair and floor picnics. What kind of layout do you guys think would work? Thinking 3 seater on window wall and tv in same corner or where the chest is? or 3 seater on opposite wall and moving tv to corner under window and then cuddler either in centre facing fireplace or where chest is? The armchair and child chair will be at the other end in a reading corner. Positioning: The chest can go either to left or right of fire depending on tv location though it does not quite fit to right so I would have to go lengthways sling radiator or to right. The best of tables could go at opposite end of the three seater. Want to buy a new tv/media unit at some point. Not sure on style but think will need to be either white or a dark wood to mix well with the chest.. Colours.. I love the redoute Afaw rug to lighten the room and am thinking maybe two walls in a teal - farrow and ball Hague blue or another (open to recommendations) on fireplace wall and wall to left (where chest currently is?) to separate living from play. Not sure whether to repaint other walls in a brilliant white, leave in the soft white currently or paint in a pale grey. Can anyone help with suggestions? Also thinking a few pops of yellow with cushions and keeping the gold round mirror though it may Need positioning a little higher? Thoughts? Comments (75)Radiators are combined by the heating circuit if you will. If you have knocked through, this will have created one large space and as such your BTU requirements will need to be met for that space. You're most welcome. Last thing you want to do is revamp your home and find yourself freezing cold. Hopefully I've prevented that from happening and pointed you in the right direction....See Moreminnie101
7 years agoHi. I agree with the comment above re window treatment and would hang the blinds in the recess, maybe introducing a pattern? Ignore the style of this room as I'm not too sure what you like as you've got a few in your ideabook but white always works for a west facing room. You could have the chimney breast in green with a white mantle and also go green for a sofa (assume the wing chair is staying?). You can also add small accents of blue or aubergine. Alternatively you could go for a pale muted olive with some warmth to it on all walls, similar to the tile colour in your very first pic in your ideabook and then paint the mantle grey and go for grey sofas. You could also add aubergine to this and gold accents for a mirror etc would look nice. If I was to paint anything oth than the surround I'd paint the coffee table as I don't find this tones in as well as the other woods.
