NEED HELP FOR HALLWAY AND FRONT DOOR
Comments (6)Hi. I'd go for a solid timber front door in a dark grey or a shade of green. Keep the overhead pane and have glass panes either sides. As Kerry said I'd just change the glass on the internal door. Maybe a mid oak for the floor, something which bounces a little light. Add a radiator cover deep enough to use as a console table with slim lamps, flowers etc and add a large round mirror (maybe In a metallic to bounce more light) over the top. I'd also have the light switch moved along a bit. I would remove the curtains as they're blocking light. If there's a draught issue think about using a much lighter fabric. It would be good to see how light the room looks once the carpet is up and the curtains gone, so I think I would hold off ordering the door until this is done in case you also need glass panes in the door. You could try a warm neutral such as farrow and ball skimming stone on the walls or just walnut by dulux. Add a picture opposite the mirror and a new light fitting ( if needed as I can't see if that's new or not!)...See Moreneed help on front door
Comments (2)If the front door is not opening straight in to the house and is remaining in a porch with a further inner door, it doesn't really matter as you won't see it from inside the house. White would be nice as it matches the windows and will remain light and airy from inside. So, given the option for indoors i'd go for the white....See MoreDesign help needed - Victorian house - new front door issue
Comments (14)What a beautiful house. So pleased you have embraced the age and style of the house rather than deciding to ‘modernise’ it as so many posts on this forum want to do to their homes. The door is a lovely colour - agree with you about using that instead of the white on the surrounding woodwork - I’d use it on the inside of the door too. Crest idea is smashing. I think all it is missing then is some softening up ... I would add some beautifully simple planted larger tubs either side of the porch - I think the box look a bit too restrained & out of proportion - I’d go for white flowers spilling over the edge and silver foliage. Maybe something with height - olive trees? Bay ? Maybe echo the planting in window boxes on the ground floor cills (obviously without the trees!) ? White/silver planting looks smart during the day, but just glows in the evening & in artificial light so ideal at the doorway. More colourful planting would compete with the door, keeping the palette restrained would, instead, complement it....See MoreFront door needs help. Front garden too
Comments (4)Hi, are you in the UK? Just that I’ve never seen sand used in that way. With the path you could add small pea shingle around the paving slabs to tidy it up a bit. If that is your front garden on the left, then as Ellie suggests, planting will help. However, sand is not nutritious enough to grow plants in, unless you have the climate to grow cacti and succulents. What to grow depends on your location and whether the area is sunny or shady. A pot either side of the front door would look smart....See Morevkololgi
