need help with dining room ideas

have a light oak wood floor which we are not changing. I have low ceilings and French doors at one end. Room is smallish at 4m x 2.4. House has been pretty low key on colour and I want something that is bright colourful but having no clue, don't want anything that is going to over power the room. Please help!!

Hi. Do you have a picture so we can see furniture, curtains etc? What way does the room face in terms of light?

I tried to place furniture in your room, but do not know where is window or not. So I got what I got. I am sure the round dining table will be better. I just did not have it in my software. Try to move two sofas on different direction. may be both on the corner would be better. Round table is on other corner.

I think you could put the tv in the opposite corner on the other side of the window, then put the two chairs (if they'll fit) side by side on that wall (with the door) with the table in between. If these are a bit too snug, you could always angle them into the centre of the room. Then the sofa could go opposite the window at right angles to the door, but a little over towards the fireplace wall. This will give you clearly defined "square" sitting room area, which you can further delineate with a rug in your chosen accent colour and then add coordinating or matching cushions and throws. I would then move what I think is a glass cabinet (in the corner of the dining part of the room) to the left hand side of the radiator cabinet. I would then try to move the dining table more towards the kitchen and the now empty corner. For the dining table I would look at getting something like a table runner or a big bowl/vase/ornament with reflects your chosen accent colour which will visually join up the two areas. I would also be tempted to replace one of the pictures with a large mirror. And also perhaps think about getting different wall art.

Your layout seems well-suited to the room, primarily because of the dining table which requires the central area and circulation space and seating distance around. You could benefit from trying to move some of the furniture around the table. For example, if you managed to move the TV to a wall-mounted position on the bottom wall then potentially all 6 diners could see the TV rather than 3. You could also try to get inbuilt joinery on both side walls and incorporate the appliances. It really depends on how much you would wish to spend on this. The beauty of it is that you are not changing any of the structure so you can try to move some of the furniture around, even pushing the table into a horizontal position. Good luck www.dorarch.com

Hi Shelly,

The flooring you have sounds
amazing so I’m really glad you’re keeping that. With having a low ceiling, you
could use an Absolute White from out Light+Space paint range. This paint makes
any room feel bright and more spacious as its patented LumiTec formulation works with
light-reflective particles to reflect up to twice as much light back into your
room, when compared to our conventional emulsion paints.

For your walls, I’d suggest
painting them in a calming Chalk Blush 3 which will help add impact and a soft
tranquil colour to the room. To add that pop of colour into the room, I’d
suggest adding a bold stripe of warm Liberty Blue 3 to create a feature. This
can be added behind the television or the sofa (depending on how bold you want
to go).
