What works well?
Comments (1)Hi. It's a great colour and pretty much anything works! For the walls look at warm metallic picture/mirror frames. You don't mention what type of room it is but tan leather goes well, colour wise my favourites would be dark teal, burnt orange or grass/emerald green but fuschia, mustard, red etc all work ( as would some white or more grey!). What are your favourite colours? It's quite a popular colour so just google images of it to give you ideas as to what you like...See MoreTo paint it not to paint wooden staircase?
Comments (19)I’d paint it - maybe 2 tone as some of the comments suggest. I did mine this summer, absolutely love how stylish it looks. I used chalk paint which needed no undercoat (some mahogany coloured stain previously) - although the grey took better than the white. Your stair gate suggest kids, I have 3 small ones and a few chips have appeared on mine, but overall I’m pleased with it. It gets a lot of comments when people come over. (We also need new carpet but holding off until the youngest gets potty trained)...See MoreWhat dining table goes with wooden work-surfaces and wooden floor?
Comments (15)I had this myself recently - I ended up I did go with a wooden table - a vintage one with multiple shades so it would still contrast and not look too much/samey. I also put a jute rug beneath mine and once you dress the top with a runner and a plant/vase etc it looks great. Alternatively white always works and I love concrete but expensive - concrete resin - metal can also be a good option - I wouldn't go with glass - I feel it's dated....See MoreNeed help deciding down pipes please!
Comments (6)Mine were originally all cast iron, but the gutters had deteriorated so much that we had them replaced with plastic. Main downpipe is still the original cast iron one which is still in good nick, just needed painting. So basically I have a mixture and we painted all the various pipes black so it looks quite smart now. If your house is a beautiful period property then I would stick with cast iron, but they don’t come cheap. I noticed another alternative at my local builders merchant which is a more heavy duty plastic moulded to look like cast iron. @Sarah Large, I’ve never noticed the quietness of a cast iron downpipe, so I’ll have a listen once the rain stops!...See MoreJuliet Docherty
