Help with my living room please

Hello all

can you assist.

i am not feeling my living room it dosent gel. Is it the layout? The colour scheme.

The sofa arrangement looks blocky and i would in time like a corner sofa but where?

The flooring, mantlepiece and units all match in colour along with the tv unit

Any advice or suggestions will be very much appreciated

I think the wall colour needs to be darker to make it look warmer and cosier like a browny colour similar to the colour on your lampshade there,also it doesn look like you've a lot of room for a cornor sofa have you much room behind the sofa coming in the front door ??

It may just be the photograph but to me it looks as though the floor should have been prepared (sanded down more). It always pays to spend good time on the preparation. The photo also looks like the room might be in shade for some part of the day so might be a bit dark, plus your having a dark sofa by the sound of it. perhaps sand the floors and go for a light or clear coloured sealer not too shiney. Perhaps look out for a large rug as if the room hasn't been soundproofed it could be noisey for the people below and echoey for you. Don't rush and as someone else indicated don't have too much large furniture. Check if you can buy nice blinds off the shelf that would be the right size, you can then get them more reasonably than made to measure.

Hi Claire, You have a lovely space to work with and it’s great to hear that you’re up for doing a bit of DIY! In regards to the coffee table, go for it! It’s a lovely design and will complement the characteristics of the room perfectly. I’d dress the table with a gorgeous green plant - not only will this add vibrant colour, but also adds life to your space and is guaranteed to make you smile. I tried to place furniture in your room, but do not know where is window or not. So I got what I got. I am sure the round dining table will be better. I just did not have it in my software. Try to move two sofas on different direction. may be both on the corner would be better. Round table is on other corner.

Wait until you've got the rug. It might be a bit too much fluffiness, and I'm a woman ;-) I think I would personally go for something a bit more understated. And do you have enough space for it? Hi. I think it's a really lovely room. I might try something like farrow and ball skimming stone for the walls with the fireplace in Charleston grey. Swap the cushions at the back for either fur or knitted ones. Does the sofa fit opposite the fire with the chair angled in front of the cabinet towards the sofa? I'd try the table off centre towards the floor mirror and have the footstool aligned in front of the fire. Perhaps try rub n buff in a gold shade from Amazon for the mirror frame over the fire? I think the corner with the floor lamp is too busy so would remove a couple of these items but hard to see where they can go from the pics. I wouldn't swap for a corner sofa tbh.

I agree that it's a nice room. I'd consider painting the walls in a slightly lighter colour than the sofas so that they blend into the background a bit more. I'd also paint the fireplace surround to make it stand out more. I wouldn't bother with a corner unit as they tend to suit modern rooms better.

After reading and seeing photos all you really need is painting of walls/ceilings to completely bring a new energy to it. Living room on below photo does not have much light but still, this golden/bronze theme works great. Go for good quality paint and be brave with colour scheme.
