Comments (6)If you work with upcyling what you have - sometimes - you may be disappointed - because it might not change that much ... but you will save on product costs . We have done designs for a couple of people who were splitting the cost by first buying Ikea carcase and worktops and then, later, buying superfront, Ikea or plykea doors at a later stage when their budget allowed . This is a good option as the Ikea drawers are complete without a door front. And you can use the kitchen while you save for the final touches . Might be worth considering too. I’d certainly echo the earlier comment that good design is a big part of the process too. Comments (13)I do not ‘obsess’ about anything but a number of things make using the space much nicer - we always cook from scratch so when we modernised our kitchen 5 years ago, I was able to design the modest space in to a very workable kitchen with plenty of storage space (cupboards scribed up to the ceiling to avoid dusty tops of cupboards), long lines of worktops for food prep & lots of cupboards to keep things off the surfaces. I had additional shelves cut at Homebase to make storage easier in the large cupboards (I have lots of china & glass). I removed the door between the utility and the kitchen so the space flows & the utility sink is deep enough to take all the large oven trays.
