TV above the fireplace
Comments (19)Hi - we have been installing TVs above fireplaces for the past 15 years. Our recommendation is that you should leave at 50-100cm clearance from the top of the fireplace to the bottom of the TV and fit a protuding mantelpiece to deflect/minimise the effect of heat thermals. Please click our link in green below of the available practical cosmetic solutions: [Hiding a TV[(https://www.houzz.co.uk/discussions/hiding-a-tv-above-a-fireplace-or-just-mounted-on-a-wall-dsvw-vd~5055576?n=5) TV too high - solving TV neck ache If you have a protruding mantelpiece or the TV is too high we now have a solution to TV neck ache: This month, we will be importing a dynamic TV mount, that is specifically designed to easily lower TV's that are fitted above a fireplace or protuding mantelpiece for comfortable viewing. The target UK price for the slim mount unit will be £599 including the ability to swivel it left and right (see photos attached). This solution is also ideal for moving the TV away from toddlers when not in use! Comments (30)Your views pls: we have a large flat screen TV positioned centrally on the chimney breast (not clear on the photo), however the fireplace is offset, not central to the chimney breast. We originally fitted the TV central to the fireplace but it didn't look right as the TV overlapped the right hand edge of the chimney breast. It just doesn't look right in either position. Would it be better in the left alcove (it just fits the width) or the right alcove (which is wider) above one of the bookcases? The other consideration is the TV leads, they cannot be chased into the old stone walls. The sockets are on the left alcove. Thoughts anyone?...See MoreHelp - where to place TV in living room
Comments (4)I don't see how more furniture is going to solve your problem. It seems unclear, from the pictures posted, why you feel you have this either or situation. A proposed floor plan showing the new window size. would be useful I agree that it is a poor idea to put a tv over a fireplace. If the plan shows the seating it may be possible to put forward an alternative design solution....See MoreFreestanding or wall-mounted TVs?
Comments (16)Hello again, Jayk. The disagreement was about the value of fireplaces. I love them; you don't! I only discovered I loved them when I got one - this is the first home in which I've had one and up till now I've thought they were a pain, assuming they should be the focus of a room without my permission. But we agree on the technology side. It is unbelievable, isn't it, that something that we use every day (most of us, anyway) such as a television should be so prescriptively ugly. You'd think they could come up with something better that suits enough of us to be a financial success for the technology company. The way southernpointofview has fitted those two televisions in is impressive but I don't have that sort of furniture. I want a discreet wall-mounted television on an arm so I can swing it out and back. Sounds simple ......See MoreStudio NOO Design
