Bedroom decoration help please!
Comments (20)At the risk of contradicting previous advice, warm colours suit a dark and north facing room much better. If you are set on blue, then I would go with a rich dark blue - Stiffkey has been mentioned and it is an awesome shade. You could then do the paintwork to co-ordinate with the wardrobes to tie them in, and use patterned or textured soft furnishings as a bridge between the two colours. Embracing the fact that the room is dark rather than fighting it gives you the chance to make it a cosy nest, with plenty of texture to break up big blocks of colour and make it even more warm. A blackout blind and soft full patterned drapes will get around the radiator under the window issue and add more interest. I see you have metallic lamps - more metallics and and clever use of mirrors will help reflect any light you do have in the day, and your low level lamps will help make it warm and intimate at night with reading light as a bonus. Comments (7)Hi, Grey may just add to the gloominess and look a tad cold for a bedroom. However If you are pushing towards a grey I'd look at some greige colours or warm greys such as skimming stone, Egyptian cotton, just walnut, etc and use warm bulbs to give a more warmer feeling to the room. The greife colours, albeit with a grey colour, appears slightly warmer with the combined beige tones and warmer greys, well it does what it says, shows up to be more inviting and welcoming. I would recommend using testers, preferably on different walls at various points during the day (or repeated coats on paper which can be moved around) when it's quite gloomy because thats the common weather and see what looks good. Alternatively, I'd look at a green colour as this appears to be warmer or consider painting a neutral and accessorise with warm rich colours such as reds or purples or oranges to add warmth to a cold room. Good Luck!...See MoreDecorating a dark bedroom in dark colour?
Comments (26)I would build things up in increments as every time you add something it changes the overall look. Get the walls sorted and have in mind the flooring, then when all that is working think about the blinds. Looking at the images above they are quite small rooms and as they have lots of texture going on the colour is dark and desaturated. I wouldn't go too bright if you want texture, keep the palette limited....See MoreNorth facing bedroom colour help
Comments (5)Dulux and other colour charts have an LRV (Light Reflectance Value) number for each colour which is a percentage. Brilliant white would be about 98% you can download the charts to get an idea but remember that the colour you see on your monitor may not be the same as the real clour of the paint unless it is calibrated in the orrect colour space. The LRVs however, will help to give you some direction. Also consider mirrors to lighten the room as it going to have wardrobes in it....See MoreCreate Perfect
