Have you thought of making this room the living room? is there a particular reason you want to use this as the dining room?
Using this space as a living room is more appealing when you walk into the house.
Something like this.....

Comments (21)What a great space, love the Crittal doors. I’d definitely go light, white ceiling and walls with brilliant white gloss skirting to show off the flooring. On the “mirror” wall I’d put wall paper to add interest and bring in the dark blue of the neighbouring kitchen. There are so many patterns to choose from. The space has a modern feel with a nod to previous eras with parquet type floor and black glazing so I’d look at the William Morris design range of Wallpapers - old traditional style with amazing patterns and colours relevant to today. good luck...See MoreDecorating a hall ideas
Comments (10)My favourite colour at the moment is Oval Room Blue by F&B which, despite its name is more a greeny blue. It will sit well with your stair carpet and your living room furniture. Comments (10)Hi Clare D, lovely high ceilings! Your hallway could definitely take larger pendants to create interest along with a colour. Do you have any particular colours you are drawn to such as greens, blues etc? If you do decide to paint we recommend painting the radiators the same colour as the walls to help these blend in. A mirror above a console table or sideboard would work well to help bounce the light around too. 7 years agoI quite like the idea, a lot of old houses used to do it. It means you avoid having potentially a small hall often starved of light and with no real purpose and have a bigger space to play with to maybe add a chair or even a fire in whatever style. As long as coat etc storage is concealed and perhaps include a console with drawers for keys, post etc I think it could work quite well. The other potential downside is privacy when a random person knocks on your door and you're having dinner with nowhere to hide! If you're including a downstairs loo I also personally would prefer that it's not off a dining room. You may also want to consider flooring, perhaps your preferred hall flooring isn't what you'd want in a dining room. Maybe post a plan as alternatively you could include a dining alcove in the kitchen or living room as a great space saver.

7 years agoA national house builder used to have a design which had a dining hall- but there was also an entrance vestibule so the WC was more private. But the dining hall meant more reception space and less hall.
