2 years empty 1970s house. Whole lot needs doing. TERRIFIED!
Comments (29)Hi Allison Oz, assuming UK tax law applies to your situation I would say it is definitely worth looking into. It's not a situation I've come across before where you are retrospectively claiming back the VAT. However it may be that you first accumulate the evidence it was vacant for 2 years and then write to the builder requesting that he reissue the invoices and a refund. Your builder will need to adjust his VAT returns and possibly make a disclosure to HMRC. I would speak to the builder and ask him to speak to his accountant. You might find the following document useful. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-notice-70045-how-to-correct-vat-errors-and-make-adjustments-or-claims/vat-notice-70045-how-to-correct-vat-errors-and-make-adjustments-or-claims...See Morewhat colour, White or grey windows? Comments (24)We have a very similar style of house and are also torn between playing it safe with white or light cream upvc windows to brighten the exterior or being a little more adventurous choosing grey. We are also having to replace all guttering, soffits and fascia ( we have 3 dormers to front and 3 at the back) so we are wondering about combining grey window frames, guttering and soffits with white fascias and white front door and white garage door. We are also supposed to decide by tomorrow but I am worried that getting it wrong will be a massive disappointment every time arrive home! i wish there was some way to "photoshop" the options onto an image of our house. Sorry not to offer any constructive advice but I found it reassuring to find another house owner struggling with a decision just like me!...See MoreI would like some ideas on updating the front of my house
Comments (11)hello, it depends on how much of it you want to change, we've all been there, decorated a room or something, then changed our minds a year later, so I'm of the view that basic colours work the best...I've done it with many gardens keep the colours basic then add on..you could do as little as spend £50 to transform your garden. If your house was mine and I had an unlimited budget I'd concrete and paint the wall white, put a palm where the shrub is in a white square planter, and repaint the woodwork, I do like the idea of grey but it would depend on if you are keeping it all the same colour. I don't agree with the Tudor comments, your house is quite new, why would you want it to look old..but of course we all have different tastes... Personally I love buildings painted white, fresh looking concrete with tropicals in the garden, I have a 6 foot Australian tree fern and bananas in my garden, there's nothing like sitting out there in the summer, I love it......See MoreExterior update 1970s semi
Comments (8)The bins do usually go in the garage. It was bin day and I dragged them up the drive being lazy! That house is amazing! I'm leaning towards keeping the windows white and changing the door and cladding too. I've been on at husband to make me a larger planter for under the window . Years. I guess I'll learn myself or ask another unrelated man friend just to undermine husband's masculinity! Lazy sod!...See MoreJonathan
