Living room dilemmas with striking sofa

So, I'm getting confused.
I've bought a duresta trafalgar sofa, chair & large footstool in the veluti stripe like the first picture-fell in love with the fabric. Now I'm struggling with a blank canvas living room.
I've ordered a log burner like the next pic, but other than that everything else is going.
I'm after a contemporary 'boutique' look but my colour scheme thoughts are all over the place- keep it all fairly neutral grey beige/have a really dark wall behind the sofa in the dark l shape/pick the deep golds/ do something with the alcoves.
Big lamps, mirror & pics a must.
The sofa is so striking I'm losing my way.
Can you help?

Hi Karen,

What a
fantastic statement sofa - this is going to look great in your Living
room. I would suggest you keep all your
walls one colour, as the impact will be from your sofas, but I’d avoid putting a
darker colour behind your sofa as it may result in this statement blending into
the wall colour and not having the ‘wow’ piece you are wanting. I would recommend either Potters Clay 3,
which is a pale, greyed off, taupe colour, or Chalk Blush 3 which is a pale,
redder toned neutral. Both of these
colours have a red undertone so will sit nicely against the purple colouring in
your sofa.

I’ve picked out a gorgeous mirror and lamp which I think
will look great in your living room (below). I’d also suggest looking out for
individual statement pieces for accessories to complete your room.

Hi Karen. I must admit I like the dark idea. That part of the room looks as if it's fairly dark anyway so would embrace it. I still think it will make the sofa stand out and have more of an impact. I might also be tempted to add panelling behind the sofa but you don't have any ideas books set up so not sure what look you're after. I also love this ombré wallpaper from designers guild which comes in a few colour ways for a more boutique feel. Agree with the lamps and mirrors etc!

Hi Chris the fabric looks like it is mainly grey with white flecks. If this is the case then go for a soft tone of grey on the walls. collect some colour charts from the decorating shop near you they are free. Furniture depends on how modern/contemporary you want to go. Wenge(not quite black) is good with grey but so can modern square looking oak if you want a softer look. use Houzz to source some images and make a mood board there will be grey schemes on there to draw ideas from

Sukiharrison and Odd job Hadyman, Thank you very much for your comments :) We actually intended to have the sofa on the opposite wall and built in cabinets and shelves exactly like you've suggested but I absolutely loved this big L shape sofa so desided to have it as it is now. There is no problem to move one part of the sofa to the opposite wall and the other to the wall against the window, but for now this is more convenient lay out. The shelves have to wait for now but I imagine them in white. After hearing a few suggestions about the secondary light by the window I will probably listen to the pros and remove it In favour of a floor or table lamp. No curtains.. For now :) I have a big thing about dust and would like this house to be as easy to clean as possible and generally don't like curtails Over radiators. Thou I understand this will affect the appearance I'd like to keep it simple.

Hello. I've been reading about rugs and allergies and decided to have a go with either jute or polypropylene rug, which should be fine in my circumstances. Our advice to you is to embrace some dark shades! Not only can dark-coloured walls give you the cosy feeling you desire but it will simultaneously make the room feel bigger as it soaks up any shadows. Here is an example of a room where we have encouraged darker shades: Having a darker wall behind your TV will also help camouflage it so it's not a main focal point. We have done this previously and added panelling to draw the eye away from the TV and instead to the featured wall behind it. Regarding sofa's it can be unavoidable to put a main sofa in front of the TV however having another sofa on either side of the original sofa can lead to a rather claustrophobic feeling. Plus you don't want to walk into the room to be immediately greeted with the back of a sofa. Have you considered multiple armchairs or footstools that can be used as chairs when entertaining? These are more manoeuvrable so you can move close the log burner in the winter or further to the windows in the summer. Funnily enough I have potters clay 3 on my hall stairs & landing but think it's a bit too soft for the lounge too.
The corner is very dark, I was wondering about making that a cosy but opulent feel, dark grey but with really big lamp/side lamps in a light colour or shiny finish - I like the copper idea. Most of our house in neutrals greys, taupes, with a feature overtly olive wall in the kitchen off the lounge. I'm going towards keeping it all similar themed, but there's still this little devil saying ' go dark' - it's a 1960s modernised house so don't want to go too traditional with panelling etc but like that feel
I've added a few 'like' pics to my idea book. Sofa chair & large footstool arrived this morning.

Hi again Karen,

You’re right that Potters Clay 3 is a soft shade, however if
you wanted to go darker, you can work your way up the colour card by two shades
to Potters Clay 1. These colours are greyed off purples so would sit
nicely against the purple and green in the sofa.

If you are still thinking about a darker shade for the
alcove, Mercury Shower 1 would work alongside Potters Clay 1, and would create
a darker, cosier feel to your living room.
