What colour should my bi-folddoors be?

I am having a completely new kitchen, opening up one wall onto the garden with bi-fold doors. Thekitchencupboards are going to be off-white with some light oak, floor is cream and walls will be cream too. People tell me that dark grey doors pull the eyes out into the garden while white acts as a sort of barrier. But I am worried dark doors will stand out toomuch within such a pale pallette. Could go for a RAL colour - but which one?

the dark colour of woid; deep black driwn; i think it sort of frames the out door :)

I would suggest a pale to mid grey that is tonally the same colour as the garden. Buy a few test pots and paint some onto card and tape it to the window. When you squint at it and it disappears into the greenery you know you are getting there. Also look on pinterest at RAL colours for internal windows, it really helps.

Hi. Just been browsing Pinterest and remembered your post. Did you buy the table? It’s very classical, think they refer to it as a regency style drum table. If you plan to re paint a different colour there’s no need to strip it, just sand lightly and paint over the top. I don’t think you’d be able to restore it to its original glory tho, looks like it had a leather top which has been scraped off. So many ways you could decorate it tho. Here’s some ideas:

I live in a similar era house. Are you not actually allowed to change the window colour or is it that you don't want them to stand out? I think that black windows would look better so the darker the better. For me the first thing that had to go on my house was the square browns guttering. We changed ours to black and our painted the woodwork underneath the guttering black and it dragged it forward by twenty years. I know this isn't the answer to your question but I thought I would mention it as I have a similar era house.

Hi Rachel, I would be tempted to paint it a softer grey like farrow & ball Ammonite or even Farrow & ball Cornforth. With a softer grey you will find the sideboard will not feel as strong in the room, allowing you for the navy chairs & sofa's to take center stage in the room.

I think it also depends on how thick the frames are on the bifold doors. Also how many doors you need for a 3m space you would have 3 doors.
Out bifold are anthracite grey, kitchen walls are FB Wimborne white and cupboards white and the island dark grey. Our garden also has dark grey fences- so it works.

Hi Ruth, it is a personal preference and dependant on the style of your home. You could also choose one colour on the inside and a different one external frames? Here are some different examples for our clients...

This client had white inside and Rosewood to match the outside frames.

This client opted for the same colour both sides, but their interior is cream - off white.

The two images above are grey on the outside and white on the inside to brighten our clients space.

It is really personal preference. Darker frames to make a more dramatic finish and frames appear slimmer when finished in a darker colour.

However if you want the doors to blend into the interior design then a lighter colour may work best.
