Hi there, i have been advised not to paper my hallway wall fully but t

R dado rails in fashion or not. Should i do as advised or paper the whole wall. Its the wall ajoining the stairs so it's very high.

Dado rails went out of fashion years ago in my area. Hall, stairs and landing take a lot of painting. Just paint it all one colour and get used to the change.

I adore picture rails (only original period features though) ...especially with picures hanging off them. lovely. if you do remove them it usually brings the plaster off and would have to be skimmed as you can't get the walls flush with just polyfiller

A vertical column radiator would indeed be a good option, and I like the anthracite idea. Alternatively, if you could find a traditional tall victorian radiator (may not be easy to source) and finish it in a bronze/verdigris, it could work really well with your dark mint and would be a real statement! Your staircase is lovely, and I would go with a contemporary striped runner, white painted sides and a simple rod.

I absolutely love what you've done, Diana. It's so elegant and stylish, but not fuddy duddy. You've updated it, without spoiling the character and beauty. Way too often, people spoil the most beautiful period houses, trying to be too clever with garish and over the top decor or too many "on trend", fashion features. When really the house needs to just speak for itself. You have a beautiful house.

What I thought looked interesting (apart from the glazed entrance) was the apparent double height of your hallway which I can’t really see in your later photos. I think it would be nice to embrace that somehow. But yes, it’s looking a little bit bland. One idea could be a more exciting stair runner. Hi! I have seen plenty of homes where you walk directly into the kitchen. I don't think this is such a big problem to do, though you do need to think about all the stuff people need to put on and take off usually at the front door and factor that into the design.
