The best gift you have ever received?
Comments (17)You'll think this is really boring but my life changed completely when my cousin gave me the money to buy a washing machine and tumble dryer when I moved into my first flat. Being liberated from the launderette was a wonderful feeling that lasted for years; she bought me freedom. Otherwise, it's the thoughtful presents that stand out for me - not necessarily expensive but exactly in tune with me - and I include cards in the general overall term of gift. Carefully chosen birthday or Christmas cards are treasures - I love Indian elephants so elephant cards are a huge pleasure and, because my birthday is on 25th December, I love clever Christmas Birthday cards (not easy to find in the UK so I tend to get them from family and friends in America/Canada). It's not cheating (one card for two occasions); it's recognising the significance of the day to me....See MoreHow can I bring this living room to life?
Comments (40)We were going for the 3 seater + the chaise, so it'd be wide. Then the footstool as well so when it's just us two we can create 2 chaises for ultimate comfort. We considered a 3 seater + 2 seater but the room is awkwardly shaped / laid out for that. We wanted something large enough for multiple people to sit on if we have visitors. The 3 seater on its own with the footstool would make for smaller width as you'd lose the + chaise seat, know what I mean? Unless we did a 3 seater plus a chair. With the TV in one corner and the wood stove in the other, I can't figure out how to place two sofas without one of them being back / side on to something or blocking it....See MoreNeed some advice for my student house bedroom approx. 9ft by 11ft
Comments (33)White or pale walls are ok, DOn't feel that the only way to decorate4 is by painitng the walls. Decide if you want white on white scheme, or a pop of colour. If so, cushions and curtains are the way to go. Decide on a colour and stick to it. TRy the 70-20-10 rule where your 70 is white4 (your walls) and 20 is curtqains and cushions and 10 is a secondary colour such as gold or silver for hardwaqre and ornaments and presto you're done....See Moreinjecting life into a dark room ....but how ?
Comments (10)Sounds very sumptuous! I think personally I’d go for all the same colour but some pics of the room might help with more advice. If you did want something different for the back wall then I think it would have to be tonally similar or it might look a bit choppy (if that makes sense). Mid to deep grey goes well with burgundy but with a texture such as grasscloth wallpaper or in smaller pieces of furniture. Rusty orange, dirty pinks, plum purples, deep greens might also look good for accessories. Some large artwork or maybe even a wall mural might help to break up the long wall. Use plenty of lights and lamps to brighten up dark corners and give a lovely atmosphere. I personally like eclectic and traditional styles so think a Persian style rug would look fab and this may help deciding on other colour accessories for the room.
