Help! What colour should I paint my render????

Hello to all you lovely helpful people out there. I have been making so many decisions for my house refurb and new kitchen extension. My builder has asked what colour I would like the render to be painted and has given me a paint card. I like the idea of a beige/cream colour but have no idea of what specific colour to go for and there is so much choice (again) out there. Here is a picture of the rear of my house including the new rendered extension. I would welcome your opinions on specific suitable colours. Thanks so much in advance. Tina

What brand of paints are you looking at? You know everyone's going to suggest Farrow & Ball if you don't give any idea of paint / budget.

Are you keeping the patio? If so consider a similar colour as it's a nice tone and would link it all together.

Sara, I agree with deniserobson, Farrow & Ball Mouse's Back is a great colour. However, F&B has recently changed the composition of their external paints which are no longer oil based. We have found this to be a problem on several occasions as the finish is not as lasting and resilient as it used to. As an alternative to the same effect you could try Papers&Paints Dark Bronze/brown PP-5-08SHB in Oil Eggshell as seen here

I must admit I am scratching my head a bit on this one - the two slightly different shades of cream don't make it easy! If everything wasn't split new, I think I would be recommending changing the tiles. I'm not a fan of painting tiles either, but I am really at a loss as to what to suggest. A teal perhaps or verdigris, but I think whatever colour you pick, the tile/cabinet combination may still feel a little unbalanced. Might be worth thinking what you can do to mask the tiles with nicely coloured appliances, possibly an accessory rail, fruit bowl, plants/herbs etc.

K11agl, thanks for the mellow mocha pic ....yes looks great in your bathroom but I'd hate it on my outside walls lol! The joy of colour swatches eh? I will look up the Crown colour you suggested & some other lighter greys ....maybe even a greige might work? I'd like a modern classic look but don't want it to look too dark or gloomy.

I think your instinct is spot on - the grey does not go with your lovely house at all! You said yourself, 'the grey craze', why follow the herd? Perhaps you should question why you want a 'contemporary colour' instead of one of the many choices which will enhance your beautiful period house. You don't see lovely pink Suffolk cottages, or the black and white half timbered houses characteristic of some areas daubed with grey because it's the latest fad.

I think the builder is using Sandtex. Probably going to go for a cream so they will get some testers. Yes keeping the patio although it needs a good jetwash which the builders will do when the job is finished ;-).

I think from Sandtex the Ivory Stone would probably be my choice. Cornish Cream is very very pure cream, too much so for my tastes.

Illustrated White, Sandstone or Mid Stone are less cream but would probably do well with the patio.

I think, though, most of the cream and the more yellow stone colours would look great, and you don't need to fret about choosing the right one. Also, it's only paint, and a single story extension is very little trouble to repaint if you later feel you've got it wrong or just want a change. Don't sweat it!
