Help with window covering where many options won't fit

Looking for advice on window covering. Here's our dilemma: We have floor to ceiling windows in all the rooms. No overhead space and no space on either side of the window for typical roller-blinds or curtains. Windows open in-wards. Seems that only option is a window covering mounted on the frame / attached to the window. Additional constraint: for bedrooms we need the window covering to be as black-out as possible. Not necessary for living room. Any suggestions?

How about window film? Take a look a purlfrost they have a lot of different designs.

mount a rod on the ceiling? You'd lose some window width at the edges but it would enable you to hang curtains if that's what you're after.

Unless you like to cook a lot of fry-up's I think a fairly powerful extractor fan should still be effective even when set back a bit. If you really want to position it over the hob you could have a contractor build in a robust boxed in false wall onto which you could have a normal 60 or 50cm wide extractor hood mounted. It would have to be anchored well to support the weight, the electrician would need to allow more power cable and a longer flue but it shouldn't be all that expensive or difficult to do. You'd probably want to make the cupboard next to it an open one or check carefully that the door is still functional.

Hello, if you don't want sight lines then I wouldn't have Crittall to be honest (unless you wanted Crittall without the cross bars of course?? as they are super busy and won't give you a clear view of the garden) We opted to go for bi-folds with slimmer sight lines and wider panes so there would be less lines. On your size opening, it would take 3 bi-fold panes which means the central one is just glass. If you had sliding doors then you would likely have 2 panels with the bar being right in the middle (unless you can slide them into pocket doors!) Bi-folds - they even do frame-less bi-folds now or ones with the lines super narrow so I would get prices for those. It also depends on your garden - as you say, because we had the bi-folds leading directly onto a patio area. If you have to step down then the garden will feel quite separate anyway and so you don't benefit from having an open 'room' as you would with a semi flush or flush threshold and bi-folds doors. In that case, Alu french doors with side panels that don't have all the cross bars would likely be the cheapest option for you.

Hi there,

Are your windows uPVC? If so, PerfectFit blinds would be ideal. They clip into the beading and become an integral part of the window itself so you don't need to mount to the lintel or wall. And you could also have these in a blackout fabric. Alternatively, you may be able to have something like Pleated blinds on tension rods even if your window is wooden - and these are also available with the blackout fabric you need for the bedrooms.
