We moved into our new home a year ago and i am just finishing my bedroom, the walls are a light grey with a "glitter" in the paint on the back wall behind the bed... (you cannot see it in the photos but when the lights are on it has a slight sparkel) curtains are darker grey crushed velvet, the carpet is a cream at the moment but will be updated soon, lampshades in pictures are an off white... so my deliemma is that i need something above the bed... the room just doesnt feel finished i would like some art work but completly open to ideas... i have silver framed photo frames on an adjacent wall (needing pictures) so dont want any photo frames mounted Secondly the mantle above the fireplace... it is a solid peice of wood (dont ask what type as i cannot remember!) so im swaying between painting it white or keeping it "natural"

What a gorgeous room. I wouldn't put anything too fussy, just a couple of pics. Can I ask where are your lamps from ?

Hi. The room looks lovely. I think a collection of art would be great. I'd keep the mantle as wood as it adds warmth. I'd also go for a similar colour carpet to the blinds so not too dissimilar to now! An alternative to art is a juju hat to add some texture as pictured

Finishing touches are being made to the complete remodel and extension of a 1970's bungalow into a contemporary dwelling over 3 floors in north Leeds. Due to the sloping nature of the site we were able to convert the lower ground garage into a formal entrance with utility and WC to the rear and by inserting a new stair, link this to the main living accommodation on the ground floor and the converted roof void. The stair forms a focal point in the house and enables light to penetrate the deep plan of the house. An existing side extension has also been adapted to create an open living / dining / kitchen opening out the rear terrace with a further roof terrace part cantilevered over providing views across the Wharfe valley. How old is your daughter? It is quite a grown-up bedroom. Before going to a big thing such as changing the carpet, I'd first look at the bed -- the bedspread is lovely, although quite heavy -- a soft mohair throw or three would soften things and make it much warmer and lighter in feel. A custom-made valance to cover the divan base would add a finishing touch and hide the base, so the bedspread wouldn't need to go the floor. The other thing to think about is the headboard; it could be much larger -- how about putting up one that is a bit higher, and much wider -- to go behind the bedside tables as well? You could go for a print if you liked, in a stronger fabric. That way the lamps would stand out against it. Warm pinks are good, depending on your daughter's taste. Once you'd picked out a fabric for the headboard, you could use one of these colours for the wardrobes, although if the bed is more of a feature you might not feel the need to use an additional colour there.

I like the room as is. I think headboard is too high for addition of art. Slightly higher lamps might have worked better with the headboard etc but i am guessing you selected these lamps as you like the quirkiness of them. Right now I think additions around bed area is not required. I would think about zen style art to wall facing your bed. You don't show this wall in pics but I am guessing it is blank. Put the art here and your room is complete. Good luck

Isabel Robson, we had two built one in another room so for the 2 wardrobes its was £3,250 i'd guess the one in the picture, which is larger than the other would be at least £1,800 - £2,000.

nicpdav2001 - i got my lamps from Home Sence, they do amazing furniture and lamps for reasonable prices, only problem is they rarely get the same thing in twice

minnie101 - i like the idea for the hat, or something to bring a bit of teaxture to the room

Why not add a mirror or a large canvass painting to really make the room feel as large as possible

domkav2 i have all mirrored waldrobes on the side of the room you cannot see, im now going to look for a canvas i think

It's a beautiful room, you've done such a great job with the design. I would have suggested a mirror but as you've said that you have mirrored wardrobes then I agree some artwork would be nice. Another option is to get a basic blank canvas and staple a beautiful fabric around it, or paste a pretty wallpaper onto it. Both of those options would allow you to add some pattern if you wanted to. I'll try to find an example as I probably haven't explained it clearly

Love the room! f you're looking to add in anything else I would look at Give As You Live, they have some lovely items from Amazon, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer.

It's a great room! I'd have one large picture above the bed - a moody landscape: strokes of colour, perhaps, so that it's not a distinct place but a general impression, and not too colourful but something that brings in a bit of colour while blending with the tone of the room. It could either be plain canvas or in a pale wooden frame to tie in with the mantelpiece (which I love). I think more than one painting above the bed would either look messy or twee which wouldn't work.

I'd put up a big picture or perhaps 2 and opt for something that's got a fair bit of grey + a bit of other colours in it.

Love your room - it's so sophisticated !

Some pictures above the bed would add a finishing touch...it's just a case of finding images with the right colours and imagery to suit the room of course.

How about adding a couple of Ikea picture ledges side by side so you can make a display of imagery. Framing swatches of wallpaper that match your scheme could work nicely and the beauty of the ledges is that you can change your display as often as you like.

Are you adding something on the wall just to fill in the space or do you want a piece of artwork to enjoy for years to come?

You seem to like the gentle, sophisticated palette of grey- green and white and have achieved excellent results. My advice is for you not to rush into "filling" the wall space. Instead start looking at original art, i.e. paintings, prints, embroideries. Look in art galleries, local art shows, fairs, etc. Eventually you will find the perfect piece that speaks to your heart. (Just remember to take the measurements of the approximate size you may want.)

Is it just me? I hate things above the bed, especially glass and mirrors. things sometimes fall off walls, especially if there is movement nearby. think I could cope with canvas or a hat, or some textile art.

it is a very beautiful room. think you should leave the wood, it is lovely and brings texture.

I've lived all my life with pictures on the wall above my bed head and nothing has ever fallen down or off ever. If it is hung properly, using the right hooks set in the walls correctly, I can't see why it would do so. Nothing fell off even when my top floor flat swayed hugely during the earthquake we had about eight years ago. I love making a feature of the wall behind and above the bed.

Great work! I'd strain the wood a walnut colour, which works amazingly with greys I think.

As for above the bed, definitely art. Whatever form you choose.

Sandra, I too am not a big fan of things that could potentially put one in A&E.

We have a soft canvas above the bed!

Thank you all for your lovely messages and comments, i have gone with a pink Chanel peice to hang above the bed, i bought the original print from a artist on Etsy and had it put on canvus locally, i have also changed the white flowers by the side of the bed to a pink to match, i have attached photos so you can all see xx

I am curious to know what you decided on doing with mantel in the end? I had a similar dilemma, though with a wooden mirror frame.

You've had loads of great advice, but you know what? Leave it all as it is! You've done a fabulous job with the decor, you can't improve on perfection! The mantle looks lovely and warm, adding a lift to a neutral room. Those curtains are gorgeous. I'd love to see pics of the rest of your house, I bet it's fab!

forzaitalia, I moved into my home about a year ago, this is actually the 1st room to be finished! when I complete more rooms ill post them, thank you for your lovely comments, I'm so happy with how it turned out in the end and to share it with such lovely people on here <3 xx
