GLASS SPLASHBACKS AND UPSTANDS FOR KITCHENS

Do many people have these and how well does glass work. Is it possible to get a matt finish? Have a powerful gas hob - is that a problem and has anyone any supplier recommendations?

Hello,

We supply LED illuminated glass splashbacks that change colours and many of our clients have put them behind hobs and ranges without a problem. If you want a "plain" glass splashback it is best to make sure that the glass is toughened/safety glass. Anyone? :) A friend today suggested a wood look laminate top (Egger have some nice looking ones) with dark blue upstand and spashback. She'd also have a wood look laminate floor. My concern is that there would be too much wood as we have an oak table and chairs. I'm sure this shouldn't be difficult :/

Toughened vs non-toughened have been a dilemma for kitchen owners for a while. The objective truth is that yes toughened glass is stronger and heat resistant, but due to significant price difference sometimes it makes sense to take risk and just replace mirror in case of breakage, which will still be cheaper than buying full toughened from the beginning, especially taking in consideration that non-tgh antique is stock product and you don’t need to wait for 2-3 weeks for production. If you are looking for simple coloured or printed glass, then definitely go for toughened since price difference is insignificant and it’s not only safer and heat resistant, but also 4-5 times stronger to impact which is good against accidental hits. The other important fact is that broken mirror can bring you bad luck for 7 years!:) so only choose professionals for your installation. We are now producing probably over 100 splashbacks per month with fair share of toughned mirrors so happy to help!

I do like Bushboard products.................the only draw back with the Vista range of splashbacks is that most of them are 9mm thick, which can pose problems when trying to put the faces back on your sockets, as the screws may not reach. It's one of those products, that if you were going to use it, like very thick tiles, then you need to sort out your back boxes to accommodate it. Glass is usually supplied in 4mm like a standard tile, which doesn't give you the knock on problem with the sockets. The long socket screws are only 75mm, so they will not reach if you stick a 9mm product on the wall with adhesive. 6 of their products:- Constellation, Hazy Forest, Inner City Cloud / Ocean Grey, Kaldeidescope Grey / Blue come in 4mm, suitable for a wall. Standard Acrylic sheeting ( from just about anywhere ) is orderable - ( is that a word?) from 3mm up, but of course, may not be suitable for behind a hob. However, we have this in our downstairs shower room, and it's great.
