Need help with flooring color & overhead light.

Should the floor contrast with the cabinet & beam color like the wide plant honey oak or be similar in color like the hickory, as in attached photos? We also need a light that will hang between the beams but not block the TV that will be over the console table. Advice please!

Comments (27)Update - alabaster painted oak units, oak worktop, (curved end units and worktop corners) belfast sink, 1100 stainless steel rangemaster porcelain large high gloss ivory 600x600 floor tiles, ivory grout - please see attached look book just still to decide on shade of sage on walls - deciding between F&B Mizzle, Vert De Terre, Ball Green and Cooking Apple Green... Also metro sub/way tiles on walls - whether to go for a sage tile or cream/white... The dining room area off the kitchen will have oak parquet floor which will follow through from hall and will also be in the lounge but Im thinking of following the wall colour in the kitchen through to the dining room for continuity and potentially painting the chimney brest or wall furthest away from and facing the kitchen a darker green complementary colour... Comments (14)Greg think you have made a great start, just needs a few colourful statement pieces. Firstly the chest of drawers are fab, my suggestion if you like them would be to utilise them in the lounge either side of the radiator under the window, for storing what looks like cd's the other side of the fireplace in these. You could put the existing cubes either side of the two sofa's. I would ditch the rug in the lounge, and get something bold and bright such as cobalt blue with orange/yellow. In the bedroom, keep the IKEA drawers and paint them either black or dark blue and have them adjacent to each other on the back wall opposite the bed, with the TV on top as someone has already suggested. The art work is great, but would swap it over to where the mirror is and move that elsewhere. Again ditch the rug, maybe an animal skin would work well in here, keeping a masculine feel. Pick some of the colours from the artwork for a well chosen throw and cushions for the bed, and don't be afraid to use some other accessories such as vases, lamps and dare I say candles!...See MoreHelp needed with colours for living room walls and floor.
Comments (1)For inspiration: And teal sofa's are great! But I would -personally- not put brown (weathered penny) on the walls. Especially not if it's 'just as dark' as the teal. Pick either a lighter or a darker color. Pale beige/greige, dark moss*. Offwhite would work just fine, as your midcentury vibe will come from your furniture. And orange and apple green should be used for small accents (pillows etc), not on large surfaces. (* Dulux Polished Pebble or Pebble Shore, Bronze Fig, RAL6007 or 6008?)...See More

7 years agoThis is just my preference but, we have a light counter and similar colored cabinets . We went with Hand scraped light hickory and absolutely love it . Gives great contrast and get tons of compliments. Remember to always go with what you like . You're the one that has to live with it . Do what makes you happy and is appealing to your eyes .
