The furniture was sanded down first to remove the varnish. Once the surface was clean and free of dust a primer was used to give a good base coat. We used Farrow & Ball Estate Eggshell for the top coat, but you can use any good quality acrylic paint. No it was not sprayed, it was all done with a brush. I do have furniture sprayed when l want a more modern finish but that was not the look we wanted here. Hope this is helpful to you.

Schmidt, I agree. Also because the traffic line between sofa and stools is rather cramped. Imagine lounging with your legs forwards, while talking to someone on the island stool and then some kids running in through that door. Personally I think I'd like my kitchen to be in the top left, next to the utility, with hob and sink in the island (and chat away with guests/family, looking out into the garden), tall cabinets with a coffee corner on the utility wall. And a spacious dining table with wide open windows onto a patio. Sofa would not be needed, for I'd look for comfy dining chairs. Sigh. Dreams. My kitchen area is 230x150cm and my utility is needed for a fridge, oven, washing machine, coats, shoes, bags and so on.. :)

Roof lantern - does it work?

Hi, as you can see by looking at the plans we have a roof lantern near the sliders. now that we have an idea of size of the open plan we are unsure whether the whole space to the right will just be a lounge with a tv unit or a split between the two as per the visual. my understanding of having a roof lantern is to have something specific directly underneath. would it look odd if we removed the two arm chairs and had a U shape couch in the middle with a roof lantern or to be safe would you exclude?

If you are wall mounting TV, your art could move to behind the couch. If you don't want to repaint, then this move will give more life to this area. The shelf unit might be better where the mirror is and the mirror relocated elsewhere . Personally, i doubt i would find getting glimpses of my self as i lounge inelegantly on my couch restfull! Agree with the obervation that the curtains and rug need to be more weighty. Good luck!
